Members and stakeholders are encouraged to register in advance for the 2012 IIT IFSH Annual Meeting by Tuesday, September 4. Registration for the annual meeting is required and the registration fee is $150. Please click here for easy online registration.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

The Chicago Marriott Southwest Burr Ridge is located about 21 miles from O'Hare International Airport and 40 minutes southwest of downtown Chicago. Midway Airport is approximately 13 miles and 30 minutes from the hotel. A complimentary airport shuttle is available but a reservation is required. Please call 630.986.4100 to reserve the Marriott Southwest's shuttle service. The American Taxi fee is approximately $37 from O'Hare and $29 from Midway. For taxi service, dial 5 at O'Hare and 13 at Midway from the courtesy phone located in the baggage claim area.

IIT IFSH Scientists On the Move     

   

Britt Burton-Freeman, PhD, Director, Center fNutrition & Aging Journalor Nutrition Research at IIT IFSH, is serving a co-editor-in-chief of Nutrition and Aging, a new international journal directed to the study of the effects of diets and dietary components on aging and age-related diseases. The journal is published by IOS Press.

the IFT Annual Meeting session, Childhood Obesity Solutions: What Can Industry Do?, presented in June, was among the highest ranked for attendance. IIT IFSH's Britt Burton-Freeman, PhD, was a featured speaker in the session, which ranked among the top 5 overall (out of 111) and the top attended symposium (out of 76) at the meeting, which attracted more than 18,000 attendees to the 2012 event in Las Vegas.

    Microbial Decontamination book

Chapter Highlights in New Book on Microbial Decontamination

 

IIT IFSH engineer and research assistant professor Kathiravan Krishnamurthy, PhD, has authored three chapters in the new book, Microbial Decontamination in the Food Industry: Novel Methods and Applications. Edited by A. Demirci, Pennsylvania State University, and M.O. Ngadi, McGill University, Canada, the book is No. 234 in the Woodhead Publishing Series in Food Science, Technology and Nutrition. Krishnamurthy's chapters cover microbial decontamination of food by ultraviolet (UV), pulsed UV light and infrared (IR) heating.
