Happy 75th CBC!
If you've ever shot confetti, you'll understand how perfect the Atrium of the CBC building in Toronto is. Up on the seventh floor - twelve cannons with their barrels peeking over the railings - it practically shoots itself. 
Any time you can shoot confetti, or streamers, snow, or bubbles - from a balcony or mezzanine - it's the way to go! We had a blast shooting Silver, Red, and White Confetti as the CBC staff and guests sang Happy Birthday and raised their glasses for a toast. 
The CBC has been a big part of all of our lives - from The Friendly Giant to Peter Gzowski to Matt Galloway in the mornings. We're thrilled that we could play a part in celebrating the birth of this iconic Canadian institution.
Diwali 2011!
Diwali is the "festival of lights" and considered by the Hindu community as one of the most important festivals of the year. Naturally, AirMagic was called upon to do what we do best - bring the fire and light!
On October 28th, we headed to the International Centre to help the Trillium Health Centre Foundation raise over $800,000!
Our beautiful propane braziers lit the entrance of the International Centre, welcoming guests into the main foyer where they were greeted by traditional dancers in gorgeous costumes.
In an incredible 'wow' moment, we used 200 mini-pyro fountains and spelled out "Happy Diwali", kick-starting this very successful fundraising event.

Mark's Story -
A 'Fine' Tale!
The first time I was on stage I was eight years old. It was The Wizard of Oz -I was one of the evil guards. I was hooked!
The 1970's were all about alternative theatre - stage manager, theatre carpenter, technician, tech director, production manager.
In the 1980's I entered the world of corporate special events. Big casts, live music... video projection was in it's infancy, multi-slide projector shows ruled, and I got my first taste of pyro.
Now I get to teach Special Effects seminars at Ryerson University and Humber College, and I work with the Explosives Regulatory Division in their pyrotechnic certification programs. Sweet!
In 1988, AirMagic was born as a full service Special Effects supplier, offering design, production, rental and retail services with a focus on live performance and events, corporate and municipal events, theatrical production, live TV, sports and fashion.
Highlight moments have been Canada Day on Parliament Hill, New Years Eve at City Hall in Toronto, So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Lord of the Rings - The Musical!
So far, it's been a great ride!

Winter Showcase
It's easy to talk special effects - but seeing is believing! It has been WAY too long since we have had an open house. On Wednesday January 18th, 2012, we invite you and your team to join us at the AirMagic Special Effects World Headquarters for our 2012 Winter Showcase. Take this opportunity to see our special effects in action and get a peek into our shop - it's where the magic begins. Tours will be led by Mark, Margaret and our top-notch staff. We will be featuring some of our coolest effects and new offerings. Here's a great opportunity to ask questions and stockpile ideas. The Showcase will happen between 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Pyro Signs - Indoors and Out!
As Anthony Robbins says,

It never fails to amaze me - we're shooting an awesome Aerial Fireworks display and we fire up the pyro sign with the clients logo, or the name of the bride, spelled out in Fireworks and the ooohs and aaahs are interrupted by a crescendo of cheers.
In the trade these are called "Lance & Frame" - named after the tiny burning flares, the Lance, whose points of light form the image, and the Frame that the Lance is attached to. 
For the last couple of centuries this has been an outdoor-only option. Today we have a stunning low-smoke product that emulates the Lance and allows us to spell out your message in bright silver letters.  In October we used almost 200 of these 45 second devices and spelled out HAPPY DIWALI for 1000 people at the International Centre. Fountain of Corporate Colour Chicago dyes the river green for Saint Patrick's Day...we dyed the fountains at Yonge&Dundas Square pink for Victoria's Secret... We love water...we love to light it, spray it, shape it, make it dance, and more than anything...we love to see the looks on people's faces when they see water shooting in the air in all the colours of the rainbow. |
