On Saturday January 28, 2012, at the campus of Our Lady of Lourdes College, Mankon, Bamenda, Cameroon, yes, the Golden Jubilee was launched. The headline and news from local to international spheres accurate. The Golden Jubilee of Our Lady of Lourdes College is blazing the path to January 5, 2013.  The Golden Jubilee Launching began with a Mass with chief celebrant His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua, assisted by Rev Fr. George Ngwa, Rev. Fr. Michael Bibi, Rev. Dr Andrew Nkea and a host of other priest. The Launching was chaired by the Governor of North West Province Abakar Ahamat. |

The Publicity Committee is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that The Golden Jubilee Launching gets the coverage and publicity that it deserves. Keeping up with Yvonne on the beat, here are the capstones:
Two days to D-Day, the crew of the Live Brunch Show in Buea, a National Radio Programme, interviewed Professor Theresa Akenji, Chair of the Golden Jubilee Steering Committee, at her office at the University as Buea. She gave the preview of the substance and circumstance with pomp that awaited the launching. In Bamenda, Rev. Sr. Ndidi, Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes College and some of her Prefects demonstrated the core of Lourdes Excellence with a documentary of CRTV Bamenda's Morning Show.
On Sunday January 22, LESA Yaounde was on TAM-TAM. The Grand Soeurs rocked and sold Lourdes' asset - image and reputation. The Safari Show was lit with all about the Golden Jubilee Launch and even early birds were tuned in, awakened by a marvelous song with the National President Emilia Chindo. Meanwhile, Mrs Jackie Kisob engaged and sensitized the entire the local community in the North West region in the Lourdes Affair.
Littoral Region was not be left behind. The airwaves gave the population insights on Lourdes @ 50 and still the best. From the Live Show at FM 105 with Moise Banteke and Behyia Leonard Bruce, through luncheon date at 2pm, thanks to Mr. Kenneth Asobo, to the crowning evening on STV during the News, it is no wonder, Bamenda sizzled and was dazzled.
Holding the banner, sisters in the Diaspora are enthusiastic on par to deliver the Diaspora Launching with a Valentines' Day Lourdes Jubilee on Feb 11th 2012 and hold your breath, an ingenious Masquerade Ball on Feb. 18!! Keep them coming sisters.

The Golden Jubilee Mass began on January 28, 2012 at exactly 9.15am with chief celebrant- His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua together with Rev Fr. George Ngwa, Rev. Fr. Michael Bibi, Rev. Dr Andrew Nkea and a host of other priests. The Lourdes students thrilled all as usual with music from those Angelic voices that went straight to the heart.
The seven page homily delivered by His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua left no one indifferent especially the Lesans to whom he directed a fair share of his message. Stay tuned for a copy of this precious message in my next update.
At the end of mass precisely before the final blessings, meritorious students received their awards from the Chair of the PTA- Mrs Grace Mary Forba. Miss Vanessa Mankefor got the best price for GCE A'levels....25 points in Geography, Economics, Mathematics (Arts) and all round best student in Cameroon. First of its kind and coming from OLLC. Indeed Lourdes College you are Blessed. Hurray....Yupi.............!!
Real business started immediately after mass. The Fundraising for the construction of 4 staff apartments to be delivered as a Golden Jubilee gift come January 2013. After listening to the Chair of the Steering Committee, the Governor of the North West Region who was also on his maiden visit to the college delivered a powerful speech and started the fundraising followed by his entourage. The Traditional Rulers were ably represented by our very own landlord His Royal Highness Fon Angwafor 111 of Mankon.
Our chief Launcher for this occasion Mr Njong Eric and wife were surely never going to disappoint Our lady of Lourdes College. Dr Asheri Kilo represented the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Minister of Culture and other Privilege invitees from the Capital (Yaounde) who were unavoidably absent. The launching of the Golden Jubilee fabric and other gadgets / souvenirs was done by one of ours Mrs Bernice Mengot, Mrs Anne Nkwain Nsang and sisters. A host of parents and mother special invitees were definitely not going to be left out.
Oh yes, and then the Lesans, for doing what they know how to do best...............!! Leaving your busy schedules and traveling from far and near....Thank you Lesans, you truly made your Alma Mater proud.
How can I forget Rev Dr Andrew Nkea, Yah Gladys Viban, Mrs Anne Nkwain Nsang for a making sure no one returned home with any cash in their pockets. Oh Fr. Nkea, thank you for ensuring no one talked of their widows mite and everything being million....million.
Truly, the vraies choses viennent de commencer like I promised you all. Driving out of Our Lady of Lourdes College at 5.00pm on Saturday January 28, we were at ............pause............pause.........51 plus Million and still counting...!!! Somebody shout Alleluia!! God is indeed good.
To whom that much is given, much is expected. This is the beginning of a great journey for Our lady of Lourdes College. The Fundraising will now be continuous with the Caravan moving from one Region to another in Cameroon spearheaded by all stakeholders ( Students, Ex-Students, Parents and Teachers) of this prestigious institution.
Our sisters in the Diaspora, we know you all are gearing up big time for your various fundraising events. Well done in advance for we know what stuff you are made of.
Finally, To the Principal Sr. Ndidi, the school administration and your tireless students, the last one week will surely not be forgotten in a long time to come. Hard work surely always pays. Success can only breathe success!! Great stuff Sr.

From 35 students in 1963 to the current enrollment of 730, the growth captures an unbroken tradition of outstanding results from the Catholic, all-girls institution of learning - Our Lady of Lourdes College, Mankon Bamenda dedicated to the enduring values of holistic education that nurtures the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, creative and spiritual growth of each student.
In the 2010/2011 academic year, the best student in the country was from Our Lady of Lourdes College Mankon, Bamenda, evident by test scores in the GCE results. An enabling school environment that provides physical and emotional security plays a vital role in actively engaging students in the teaching and learning process and it encourages personal and collective responsibility for excellence.
The journey that began in 1963 has seen many cornerstones laid and milestones realized with immeasurable support from students, former students, parents, staff, Cameroonians and the international community. From the addition of a high school, modern library to water project and scholarship from LESA USA, the road to the Golden Jubilee in 2013 has been graced with blessings and thanks to God.
With the need to provide academic, social and moral support to students, the learning environment is a priority in upholding the renown quality of education at Our Lady of Lourdes College. Due to the proximity of shared borders with urban neighborhoods, the hassles and disturbances from thieves interfere with the ideal of a peaceable school campus. It is imperative to ensure that our students are prepared to learn without fear as they strive to actualize their greatest potentials. The role of teachers, who have daily interactions with students, is invaluable in meeting the challenges. In deed, beyond the classroom, the teacher is a mentor and advisor.
From 3 teachers in 1963 to 48 today, the unsung heroes and heroines are a central part of Lourdes' storied excellence. The Golden Jubilee Appeal is to build a four apartment staff quarters on campus for teachers, which is a cost effective approach to realize the summarized multidimensional benefits:
1) Improved time for lesson plans: Staying on campus enables teachers to have more time to prepare lesson plans. Staff planning and collaboration among teachers will enhance the quality of teaching.
2) Improved student outcomes: With teachers more accessible on campus, after-school academic advisory and supervisory interactions between teachers and students will empower and encourage students to become lifelong learners, to be responsible for their learning and actions, the learning environment.
3) Improved Morale: With teachers' reach beyond traditional classroom boundaries, they will be able to directly or indirectly reach larger number of students beyond their classroom walls in fostering and modeling social and moral discipline.
4) Improved Teacher Retention: The incentives of campus facilities will reduce the cost of housing and transportation, which are incentives in recruiting and retaining highly qualified teaching staff.

The total cost of the building is estimated at 50,000,000F (Fifty Million Francs) CFA. We are confident that with your support, the befitting gift will be unveiled on January 5, 2013 to mark the Golden Jubilee.
In the United States, LESA USA is poised for an outstanding coast to coast Golden Jubilee Launching at its Valentine Day Extravaganza on February 11 (officially heralded Feb 14). 2012 in Washington/Maryland, Georgia/Atlanta, California and Minnesota. The LESA USA Golden Jubilee Launching gets an extra creative flair with the LESA USA - Carolinas Masquerade Ball on February 18, 2012.
With evidence of public trust well earned and upheld, we count on your support in building the staff quarters to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Our Lady of Lourdes College.

And the glass is almost full....almost tumbling with success.
Past 51 million and counting....going to 60 million CFA raised on the Launching in Cameroon on January 28, 2012.
Sis Ndidi is overwhelmed by the shower of love and support..Can we say the launching was SUCCESSFUL... No!!! I don't believe that word suffices.....that would be an understatement. The launching of Our Lady of Lourdes Golden Jubilee was stupendous, glorious, amazing, fulfilling but most of all effective. Our ALMA Mater is an institution to be reckoned with. Say that again and uncork the champagne...or buy one at the LESA USA Launching in February.... at the city next to you.
The Governor, the Archbishop, CRTV both factions, BBC (Veronica Chilolu), and many other journalists were present to usher in the festivity... The day started with a mass that most surely resounded in the heavens... I guarantee you that Our Blessed Mother interceded on our behalf. AMEN.
LESA USA is known for its positive messages and get-it done substance. Definitely, the Ladies of Golden Scepter are engaging the global community and upholding the standards and receiving positive response.
There is reason to clap, old good LESA USA is serving since 2000.
Yes, speaking of mission.. believe your ears... (I did not believe mine, thought it needed to be cleaned - honestly) but it is true - the Lourdes Golden Jubilee launching raised past 50 million and counting to....60 million francs CFA. This is what is called: outdoing a goal weLLLLLLLLLL scoring and surpassing the 50 million goal post on the way to netting 75 million CFA.
LESA Cameroon donated 2.5 million CFA. Clap! Erick Njong and his family alone donated 5 million CFA.....clap thunderously. There were so many pledges and contributions for $1000 (500,000 francs that it was mind boggling). If you are in the Diaspora, packing your bags to Cameroon? My frame of mind...hahaha.
 Our Lady of Lourdes never let us down! The LESA USA Jubilee Launching in February 2012, right on the heels of this spectacular dazzler in Bamenda, is a promised treat. My daughter Darlene is coming to help, yes at the AGM 2012 with a goal to top the icing on the cake to ensure that the resources are there on January 5, 2013. Oh, yes she also requested that
Diaspora bring something nice for them to eat in school on the day of the Jubilee itself LOL.. !!!!!! (That's Class prefect oh!!! thinking of her classmates...taking care of her own.) I am so proud; I am bursting at the seams.
