Food Preservation: Tomato Canning with ISLAND


When: 
September 4th, 5:30 to 8:30pm

Where: 
Wells Family Farm 9490 Elk Lake Rd, Williamsburg, MI
 
Cost: $35. Preregistration required. 


Come learn how to can tomatoes; or if you know how, come join in the fun of a community canning party. Produce, canning jars and lids will be provided. Each participant will prepare and can tomatoes hands-on, and take home a share of the jars at the end of the workshop. There will be take-home info and resources available. Class size is limited. Event tentative and date subject to change based on season.

GREAT LAKES BIONEERS CONFERENCE PRESENTS

 

Along with this documentary about the daily struggles and joys of Palestinian olive farmers, enjoy live music with Joshua Davis, a Q&A with filmmaker Aaron Dennis and some special surprises! Also there will be an AFTER PARTY at InsideOut Gallery in the warehouse district.  

 

Proceeds from tickets sales go towards Scholarships to the Great Lakes Bioneers Conference, Oct 19-21.

Jackie Victor is the co-founder of Avalon

International Breads, a socially responsible

artisan bakery in Detroit founded in 1997.

She moved to Detroit after graduating from

University of Michigan in 1988 to be part of

the economic, cultural and spiritual revival

of Detroit. Jackie's three decades of

activism and co-creation have been

inspired by a wide range of individuals and

movements, including the Neahtawanta

Center on Old Mission Peninsula and the

Boggs Center on the east side of Detroit.

Jackie raises her children, Rafi (12) and Ari

(7) in the Lafayette Park neighborhood of

Detroit. She is on the boards of Greening

of Detroit, the Isaac Agree Downtown

Synagogue, and SheTroit.
