Spotlight on RACING PARTNERSHIPS
The Hidden Brook racing partnerships continue to make impressive strides, winning at a 20% clip this year, with a 53% in the money percentage.
The latest partnership runner to serve notice is two-year-old Prateada, who made a sterling debut in a tough $45,000 maiden special at Keeneland on October 23 (pictured). Prateada-
which means "silver" in Portuguese-heads next to the $75,000 Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel on November 19. The aptly-named Badge of Silver filly was purchased for just $33,000 at the OBS April Sale of Juveniles in Training, and races for Hidden Brook Farm, Two Legends Farm, and Dan Zucker. She is trained by the veteran H. Graham Motion. For a limited time, there are a few shares left in two yearlings we recently purchased to race under the Hidden Brook banner. One is by the hot freshman stallion Flashy Bull out of a Storm Cat granddaughter, and the other is by another hot first-year sire, and out of a mare by Seattle Slew. For more information contact Dan Hall.

Horse of the Year in balance
11 Hidden Brook Connections in Breeders' Cup Lineup
 | A Classic victory could garner Horse of the
Year honors for GAME ON DUDE |
Five previous Hidden Brook sales graduates and three current sales offerings are scheduled to line up
in the starting gate for the 28th Breeders' Cup World Champion- ships November 4th and 5th at Churchill Downs. In addition, Hidden Brook will offer the dam of and weanling half sister to current Juvenile Fillies favorite Weemissfrankie, a full sister to Dirt Mile first alternate Tapizar, and a half sister to Juvenile Fillies contender Say a Novena.
This is the largest number of graduates and contenders that Hidden Brook has ever had in a single Breeders' Cup, an important milestone for the program.
Speaking by phone from the Fasig-Tipton sales grounds, Dan Hall expanded on the depth of the Hidden Brook connections pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup. "Naturally, it's very satisfying to see the strong number of potential Breeders' Cup participants in this year's races. It's not only a great source of pride for all of the Hidden Brook partners and staff, but more importantly, this year's involvement is a testament to our clients' perseverance, commitment to achieving at the highest levels in racing, and confidence in our program. Any time you have a single connection with the potential for divisional honors is special; to have several in the hunt for year-end honors is especially rewarding."
The roster of connections including the race they will be contesting are : $5,000,000 Classic (G1): Game On Dude (yearling graduate) $3,000,000 Turf (G1): Stately Victor (yearling graduate) $2,000,000 Juvenile (G1): Drill (weanling graduate) $2,000,000 Juvenile (G1): Fort Loudon (Hip #154 at FTK Nov)

FTK October Sale
Hidden Brook Among Leading Consignors
Led by a $160,000 Giant's Causeway colt, Hidden Brook sold 100% of the yearlings they offered at the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale held October 24-26 in Lexington. Hidden Brook brought eight yearlings to the sales ring and sold all eight. In addition, the Hidden Brook yearlings out-performed the overall sale average.
On the final day of the three-day venue, Hidden Brook presented Phase I of the Flying Zee dispersal, selling 39 yearlings for $1,236,700. The dispersal average of $35,335 out-performed the October Sale average by 41%. The high-priced yearling was a Lemon Drop Kid filly, who sold for $375,000, just $5,000 less than the top yearling at the main sale.
Hidden Brook will next offer consignments to the Kentucky November Breeding Stock Sales at Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland. Both consignments may be accessed via links on the left side of this Newsletter.

Phase II at Fasig-Tipton December 5
Hidden Brook handling Flying Zee Dispersal
The Estate of Carl Lizza Jr. has chosen Hidden Brook as agent for the complete dispersal of Flying Zee Stable.
For more than three decades Flying Zee has been a prominent New York based racing and breeding powerhouse; they have led all breeders in N.Y.State four times, including 2011. Mr. Lizza died on July 8th, prompting the dispersal of the vast majority of his Thoroughbred holdings.
Phase I of the dispersal with Hidden Brook acting as agent, was held Oct. 26 at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky, and 39 registered New York-bred yearlings were sold on the final day of the Fall Yearling Sale in Lexington, totaling over $1,200,000.
Phase II of the dispersal will be held at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale in Timonium, Maryland on December 5, 2011, and includes weanlings, broodmares, and horses of racing age.
Further information and catalogues may be accessed via Fasig-Tipton's website. A link has been provided on the left side of this Newsletter.

Inside the WINNER'S CIRCLE
with Blue Devil Racing
A popular new feature in The HIDDEN BROOK TIMES is a Q&A with some of our valued clients. James O'Reilly is a Partner and General Manager of Blue Devil Racing, which has had a good deal of success this year with horses purchased by Hidden Brook. Blue Devil entered the Thoroughbred business in 2007, and has been a Hidden Brook client for four years. The Blue Devil partners are commercial real estate professionals in their mid-40's, who enjoy the action and camaraderie of the Thoroughbred business. Here are a few of their thoughts on the Thoroughbred industry and life in general. Founded: 2007 Partners: James O'Reilly and his longtime friend and high school mate Born and raised: Huntington, NY Notable successes: Raced four stakes horses of 2011 from a 12-horse stable Ok, I'll bite. Does the diehard UK fan dare ask the inspiration for your name? We deal with this question all the time-especially from Kentuckians, who think we are associated with Duke University (Ed note: dreaded rival of Lexington's beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats). More importantly, Blue Devil is the mascot of Huntington High School, on Long Island, where my partner and I went to school and played together on the lacrosse team. We are frequently asked if we are associated with Duke, and we emphatically say, especially to the people in Kentucky, "no-we are not." Just the other day, Christophe Clement asked us in the paddock if we are from Duke. It is something we deal with on a regular basis. We want it known now, "don't shun us because of our name." Whew. Now that that's settled: How did you get involved with racing? My partner's family raced Standardbreds at the Meadowlands in the '80's, and back in high school, we often went to the races and experienced horseracing on that level. We always said to one another, "When we can, we want to be involved in this great sport." Through the years, we continued to be avid followers of racing, attending the races at Belmont and Saratoga, etc. The year Street Sense won the Derby we made our first Derby appearance. We went with 10 people, spent the whole weekend, and had a great time. On the way home, my partner looked at me and said, 'It's time'. Within months we bought our first horse (Honest To Betsy), trained her with Dale Romans, and won our first start in a two-year-old Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park. How's that for an introduction into this game?"
How many partners are there in Blue Devil Racing? Just the two of us. But we absolutely involve our friends and families. We ran several horses at Churchill on Derby Day, and had our wives and friends with us. We didn't win anything, but that's part of the experience. My partner's wife helps in other areas. She is an accomplished equestrienne, and helps place the horses after their race careers are over. Blue Devil has had some excellent success this year with Hidden Brook sales selections, including three $100,000 stakes horses. Tell us about them. Zapparition had some early success in Florida, placing in a Grade 3. She ran 4th on Derby Day in a Grade 2. She's been resting, and we intend to bring her back in Florida in January, and point for the Sunshine Millions. Rogue's Jewel, trained by Carlos Martin, had some early success on the dirt, but she switched to the turf and really moved up. She is a solid New York-bred stakes runner on the grass. Shot Gun Pennie is also trained by Carlos...we bought her as a yearling and targeted the New York-bred Lady Finger Stakes at Finger Lakes. She ran in it as a maiden- went right to the front and really took to the wet track. We were at Saratoga that day, watching it on the monitors-all the people there were handicapping for the next race, and there we were, screaming at the monitors. Those three horses are fillies: Is your stable especially geared toward fillies? It is, for the most part. But the team scouting for us brings what they think will work. We bought a colt this year, Perfect Trippi, who has placed twice in two starts, and who Dale says has a nice future.
We hear there's a story to how you name your horses: Even back in high school, we knew we would name our horses after George Thorogood and the Destroyers-it was a band we followed throughout high school and college, and we have named several of our runners after their songs. How many horses do you currently have? We have about a dozen in training. Then we have six to eight broodmares, weanlings, and yearlings at Akindale Farm in New York. Our business plan is to buy quality fillies with strong pedigrees that can transform into solid value as broodmares if they have some success as racehorses. We are evolving into a more commercial operation. The first wave of horses that we bought are now transitioning into broodmares. As much as we enjoy the action of racing our horses, the idea has always been to diversify the business to include breeding as well as racing. What drew you to Hidden Brook? We were introduced to Jack at Saratoga in 2008. He bought Rogue's Jewel for us at the Saratoga New York Bred Sale that year. The next year we bought Zapparition at the Adena 2-Year-Old Sale. He's been one of our advisors ever since. We've gone into sales when he's called us with prospects he thought were attractive -and other times when we've asked him to work with us.How has the Hidden Brook experience been different? Jack and the rest of the Hidden Brook team have a great sense of humor-it's fun to be around them. And even at sales where we are not shopping, they have a great sense of what's going on in the industry, and keep us informed. We've been impressed most by their attitude. They work sales very hard for us, and even when we come away without a purchase, they never get frustrated. Still, they are dedicated to doing what they need to do, and when it doesn't work out, they can shrug it off. I have walked sales with Dan Hall and Mark Roberts along with Jack. Those three together are a solid team. They are generous with their time, and we have been impressed with how well they work together. What has been your best win to date? Shot Gun Pennie. Was that also your most exciting racing moment? The highlight for me was 10 seconds before the gate opened in the Delta Princess Stakes last year, when we were the favorite in a $500,000 race. We all took a trip down to Louisiana. The feeling of being there, odds-on in a $500,000 race. Our horse was named Promise Me a Cat-and despite the fact she didn't win, it was a validation that we were on the right track, working with the right people, making, for the most part, the right decisions. But big favorites don't always win. It was a reinforcement of a good lesson. Favorite racetrack. Saratoga Favorite sports team. Yankees and Giants for me. Yankees and Jets for my partner.Favorite place to eat. Pietros, in midtown Manhattan. All our Blue Devil meetings are held there, and we never pass on the Sauteed Clams. Thank you James O'Reilly, for giving us a few minutes of your time in the Winner's Circle.
