In the Spotlight

Hidden Brook featured in Blood-Horse

HB GUYS
Sergio de Sousa, Jack Brothers, and Dan Hall as featured in The Blood-Horse July 16

Lexington, KY-The Hidden Brook program, its marquee horses and many of its clients were the focus of a major feature article in the July 16 issue of The Blood-Horse.

Spread across four full pages of the summer sale preview edition, and written by Award-winning Features Editor Lenny Shulman, the article focused on Hidden Brook's renowned teamwork approach, and detailed the many success stories that have emanated from the farm, sales, and racing divisions.

Especially well-deserved was the attention given to Farm Manager/Partner Sergio de Sousa, who explained in great detail how careful management of the land, the feed program, the staff, and of course the horses, has resulted in a higher-than-average success rate at the races.

"We give our pastures rest and we never overload the farm because that land is our bread and butter," de Sousa told The Blood-Horse. "Our percentage of stakes horses is 15.6% of what we raise here, which is a high number. It has to do with our staff and never pushing a horse...if you have a horse that was raised right, hopefully it will pay off at the racetrack."

On Track Success Continues Unabated

32 Individual stakes horses
for program
this year

Lareinelionne

La Reine Lionne (G3)  just missed winning a $59,000 Saratoga allowance for one of our partnerships July 30.

Paris, KY-The hot summer steams on for Hidden Brook, as 32 individual graduates have already won or placed in stakes this year.

Through the end of July, horses either foaled, raised, sold, raced in partnership and/or purchased by Hidden Brook had won or placed in 61 major races around the world. These include nine Group/Grade 1 horses, 10 stakes winners, and 16 overall Graded stakes horses.

"With so much success from all facets of our program, it's hard to select just a few highlights," said Partner Dan Hall. "We are especially proud to have had our 12th Classic competitor of the past two years, in English Two Thousand Guineas contender Happy Today; our ninth and tenth Grade 1 winners in seven years, with Game On Dude and Awesome Maria; and our tenth stakes winner of 2011, Arlington Handicap-G3 victor Tajaaweed." In addition, Hall commended the Hidden Brook racing partnerships, which have been in the money 55% of the time."When you consider that we have just a few horses in training, yet compete successfully at some of the nation's most prestigious meetings, including Saratoga, Keeneland, and Gulfstream, this feat is even more remarkable."

Hall continued, "I cannot describe to you the excitement of standing in the owner's boxes at Saratoga, as we did with La Reine Lionne and Ms Silver Oak on July 30, and rooting for your horses alongside your friends and partners. There is nothing quite like it. And we intend to do it again and again."
