Detailed Disassembly
OK folks...who can identify the handgun part shown above?
Hint...yours may be stainless steel or titanium.
Another hint... it's from a Series 80 Colt .45
One tip we have for every shooter is to thoroughly understand the mechanical functioning of every aspect of your firearm. The best way to start figuring this out is to conduct detailed disassembly of your weapon into the smallest piece parts there are.
There is risk involved in this...you need to be able to get the weapon back together again! SO if you are not confident in your ability to completely disassemble the weapons. then find a qualified gunsmith to show you how.
When Jim Reifinger served as Company Gunny of Fighting Fox 2/6 back in 1983, he required every officer and Staff NCO to be able to do this. Thanks Jim!
Knowing with confidence the mechanical operation of the firearm increases your confidence, and makes you a better shooter. It also helps you apply immediate action in case of a stoppage. Know your weapons inside and out!
Good shooting!
