Shooting Tip of the Month |

Two-hand grip:
Using both hands allows the shooter to steady the firing hand and provide maximum support during firing. Two-handed grips are recommended whenever possible for all handgun (quick engagement) firing.
To use a two-handed grip, first put your firing hand on your weapon as described last month (One-hand grip). Then put the thumb of your non-firing hand over the thumb of your firing hand and wrap the fingers of your non-firing hand around the fingers of your firing hand. This is the basic two-handed grip.
Note from the common shooter...
Relax, don't try and crush the pistol with your two-hand grip. If you have trouble with this, try applying just a little bit of back pressure from the three non-shooting fingers of your firing hand against the palm of your non-firing hand. Doing so will make you conscious of the overpressure you're applying, and may help you relax your grip a bit.

L-580 Gettysburg Staff Ride
OMNA International supported the Incident Management Team of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) in their participation in the National WIldfire Coordinating Group's L-580 Senior Leadership Development Staff Ride at Gettysburg. In two back-to-back sessions from 1-6 May, 135 of our nation's senior firefighters and incident management team leaders discussed the art of leadership using the historic backdrop of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. Each session began with "Marine Corps Steaks and Beers" at the Home of Seamus Garraghy and his bride Linda Bell. After two days of decision-making exercises tracing the key decision points of the 1863 commanders, all participants broke bread and shared drink at an integration dinner, sharing their most valuable lessons learned from the experience. Session B Incident Management Teams are pictured below around the New York Volunteer Fire Department Monument in the Peach Orchard salient.
