Shooting Tip of the Month

Grip: Pistol Basic

Your weapon must become an extension of your hand and forearm.  It should replace your finger in pointing at an object.  A firm, consistent grip must be used.  Proper grip is one of the most important factors in being able to place multiple shots on your target, quickly. The grip begins in your upper forearm and extends down through your fingers.

One-hand grip:

To establish a good grip, form a "V"  (it may look like a "U') with the thumb and index finger of your firing hand.  Place the weapon in the V with the front and rear sights in line with your firing arm (forearm grip alignment).  Wrap the lower three fingers of your firing hand around the pistol grip, putting equal pressure with all three fingers to the rear.  Allow the thumb of the firing hand to rest alongside the weapon without pressure.  Grip the weapon firmly, just as you make a firm handshake. This amount of pressure is sufficient for a proper grip.  Place the trigger finger on the trigger between the tip and first joint so that it can be squeezed (mashed) rearward.  When firing, your trigger finger must work independently of the other fingers, straight to the rear in a smooth, consistent manner.

Next month...two-hand grip!

OMNA Supports U.S. Naval Academy Graduate Level LEAD Program  Overlooking The Crater at Petersburg

On 12 and 13 March 2011, OMNA International led an overnight leadership staff ride comparing the leadership styles of Robert E. Lee and U.S. Grant through their actions in Virginia 1864-1865.  Starting at the Wilderness Battlefield, we conducted operational-level decision-making exercises with participants at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Guinea Station, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Fort Harrison, Petersburg, Five Forks, Sailor's Creek, and Appomattox.  We overnighted at Camp Hanover, courtesy of the Presbytery of the James, with an integration dinner catered by Virginia Barbeque of Ashland.
