CLU is WASC Accredited

As you may be aware, last year was an arduous one for CLU; we had a state non-public school AND WASC visit within the same month. Anyone who has been through one of these necessary visits, knows how one alone can be difficult, let alone two in one month. Nonetheless, the programs spoke for themselves. We passed both with flying colors.

The WASC accreditation means that (1) a school's goal is successful student learning; (2) each school has a clear purpose and schoolwide student goals; and (3) a school engages in external and internal evaluations as part of continued school improvement to support student learning. Bottom line, the accrediting commission recognized CLU as being student centered and committed to school improvement.

For high school students, this accreditation is monumental. We are in the process of establishing our course list with the UC Gateways. Our transcripts have been validated. But once the courses are established, high school students can apply to UC/CSU schools with confidence that the courses meet college rigor and acceptance.

Lunch Time Activities

This year, during lunch and nutrition breaks, we have a scheduled set of activities that take place, in a structured setting. Our kids are enjoying playing cooperative games, while being socially guided. Ask your child what games they played today.

CLU Featured in LA Magazine
A few months ago, CLU staff was approached by a staff writer, seeking more information about the school. We did our homework and responded to their questions. And lo and behold, we were one of many schools featured in the September 2010 issue. Read more in the online article.

If anyone has hard copies, would you kindly let us know? We would like to have extras on hand.

Parent Care Corner

Well, thanks to all of you fantastic parents and staff who came out to Ruby's for the first fundraiser . . . drum roll please . . . we raised $140!!!!! Even Ruby's was impressed!  I think we can chalk this one up as a smashing success!  It was certainly a fun evening and it was nice to get to know a bunch of you folks a little better.  In fact it was so successful I think we should "Shooby-Do" it again in the spring, don't you think?

Okay, we've got a tremendous line up for the year including more "fun raising" opportunities for our own school, parent work day to put the garden in place, raising money for Unicef and possibly supporting an orphanage in Haiti, and parents' night out just to name a few.  Please, if you haven't already, sign up at your local grocery store to register your grocery card for CLU.  Also don't forget to download "goodsearch" as your search engine.  GoodShop (associated with GoodSearch) provides valuable coupons and a percentage of your purchases goes to a school/charity of your choice - which would be CLU of course.  Most stores are available - I know I've bought shoes from DSW, clothes from Eddie Bower and Lands End, toiletries from Walgreens etc. etc.   These are things you can do to help out our school that require almost no effort or time.  Also, bring in those used printer ink cartridges!  We have a lot of needs and every bit helps!

If any of you have any ideas you would like to share, (click on my name below to send me an email) I am open to suggestions and of course help to implement them.  Stay tuned for more details about the chocolate fund raiser coming your way VERY soon!

Thanks again!
