Dear Dr. Seuss Dealers and Collectors, Over the past decade, the Art of Dr. Seuss has become one of the most sought-after collections within the gallery and collector communities, yet it remains a relatively little-known secret among the general public. The compelling story of Theodor Seuss Geisel's rich artistic legacy is now reverberating within the museum community, prompting the attention of several major organizations and public spaces. In our effort to keep you current on high-profile events, we proudly announce the opening of The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss Exhibition at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library on February 18, 2011-continuing through May 22, 2011. Additionally, an exhibition on the Art of Dr. Seuss is in the works for the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library in concert with the March 2, 2012 premiere of The Lorax movie. We will alert you to other important exhibitions as they occur; several are currently in discussion. These exhibitions pay tribute to Ted Geisel's impact on the 20th and 21st centuries, and further the excitement and significance of collecting artwork from an American icon, selected in 2010 by LIFE Books as one of the 100 People Who Changed the World. Dr. Seuss was the only children's author who was included in the book. Taking his place in the "cultural icon" section, Ted finds himself in grand company appearing alongside Michelangelo, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Dickens, Le Corbusier, Chaplin, Chanel, Picasso, and Elvis.
Best regards, Bill Dreyer - Curator, The Art of Dr. Seuss |
