What's Happening in the Marketplace?
What makes our online Classifieds and Marketplace so unique?  It's our friends and neighbors that make it stand out.

Greetings!

In this week's issue we are very proud to be able to reprint an 'article' written by Kathy Schillemat.  She and a handful of Nelson adventurers took full advantage of our recent 'Once In A Blue Moon' evening and set off for ... well, why don't you read the article below?
News From Nelson Elementary School
Nelson Elementary SchoolMs. Benner
Mark your calendars for the first School Spirit Day of the 2012 - 2013 school year.  The first Monday of each month (during the school year) is Spirit Day!  On Spirit Day we all dress according to the month's theme, as chosen by one of the classes on a rotating basis.  Participation is optional but it's a great deal of fun and we always take a group photo, so the more that join in, the better.

September's Spirit Day will be this Monday - the 10th - and dress theme will be Nelson School Colors, which are blue and white.  You can wear one or the other or BOTH!

During the afternoon of each Spirit Day we also hold an All-School Door Decorating block.  Later in the week we 'visit' each classroom's door so that everyone has a chance to tell bout their creation.  Our doors are 'judged' by Mrs. Dowley, Mrs.Keating, and Mrs. Silk on the day of our door 'visits' and each classroom is presented with an Award Certificate.

2nd Saturday Contra Dance
2nd Saturday Contra Dance The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Nelson Second Saturday Contra Dance on September 8th, featuring Don Primrose with Bo Bradham and Gordon Peery.

Caller Don Primrose from Sullivan, NH, is well-known for his able guidance of the weekly Monday night dance in Nelson. He is also the founder of the Hundred Nights Shelter in Keene, NH.

Fiddler Bo Bradham was one of the founding members of the Greenfield Dance Band based in Massachusetts. He has studied with Mark O'Connor, Natalie MacMaster, and Martin Hayes. With his roots in New England and his love of southern music, Bo succeeds at crossing of boundaries between many genres of music.

Gordon Peery, of Nelson, NH, plays piano with gusto, appearing with bands such as Celticladda and Airdance. He has played for dances all over America as well as the Shetland Isles and England. He is also known for his jazz trio work, most recently appearing with Swing Set.

Dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with a short workshop beforehand. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening. Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors. The dance takes place in the historic Town Hall in Nelson, NH.

Blue Moon Canoe/Kayak Trip on the Great Meadow
By Katharine Haehnel Schillemat

Nina Iselin, Geoffrey Schillemat and I rounded out the lovely month of August with a moonlit paddle on the Great Meadow in Nelson and Harrisville. What a different place by night. The sounds of the Meadow filled our senses; no birdsong, just insects, all around us, buzzing, chirping, but not biting thankfully. The weather was downright balmy, and Geoff caught the magic of the meadows. It was lovely. The air was also filled with scents that colored our journey. Lots of asters in bloom. No unusual wildlife, except possibly us.

The funniest moment was when we got into Nina's car to go back to Dave's and pick up my car. Nina was ready to drive down the road without her lights on. I had to say three times, "Lights would be good," before she got the hint and turned them on. She had just gotten used to traveling by moonlight and forgot to turn them on.

Open Meeting & Discussion
architect At 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 20th at the Chapel By The Lake, the Town Buildings Committee will review the proposals and budgets for repairs and renovations of the town's buildings. The total cost for the three proposed projects is approximately $750,000. You are invited to attend this meeting and learn more about these projects, and make your voice heard.

The assessment work to develop the recommendations was funded in part by a grant from the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance and in part by a vote of the Town in March of 2012.

Currently, the Town Buildings Committee and the Selectmen intend to bring all three projects to Town Meeting as separate warrant articles. Your votes will decide which, if any, of these projects go forward.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
Will it be you?

Judi Lang and Karen Tolman are orchestrating the second fun and informal way to gather around the table, share a potluck meal, get to know one another and enjoy the evening.  Have we piqued your interest?

The entertaining element of mystery to this evening is this:  The host's address is provided to the guests, but the host doesn't know who's coming to dinner.  The guests show up at the address, but don't know who else will be there.  In fact, they may not even know their host - even in a small town like Nelson.  A fun and relaxing event - that's it!

You bring a potluck dish and show up or you share your table. So guess who's coming to dinner on September 28th?  Will it be you?  Call Judi 847-3277 or Karen 827-3226 today to find out more and to sign up either as host or guest.  And then, enjoy!

See you around town!
