Old Home Week is almost here. From August 12th until August 18th we'll be celebrating our heritage with seven days filled with fun and activities.
The Old Home Week edition of the Grapevine has been published which contains the entire updated schedule for the week's events. In case you didn't get your copy you can read it here.

Selectmen's Notices, Meetings, Etc.
NOTICE: The Town Offices will be closed in August from the 12th thru August 20th for renovations. For further information, contact Edie Drinkwater.
The Nelson Volunteer Fire Department is in need of rescue personnel. We have put together a certified First Responder course that will be held in town and will start in September. You can click here to see the complete course program, which runs through December 1.

Very Special Saturday Contra Dance
| The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Nelson Second Saturday Contra Dance at the Nelson Town Hall on August 11th, featuring Dudley and Jacqueline Laufman for the Annual Old Home Week Contra Dance.
Dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with a short workshop beforehand. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening. Special Admission is $2!!

 | Library Book Discussion Group / August | We will be discussing "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain on Monday morning, August 20th at 10:30 am. Come join us at the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library for an entertaining discussion of this deeply evocative story of ambition and betrayal. "The Paris Wife" captures a remarkable period of time and a love affair between two unforgettable people: Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley.

 | Musical Connections From New England ... ... to Texas
| Join us on August 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Nelson Town Hall for the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library's presentation of "Musical Connections From New England to Texas" with Paul Klemperer.
Paul will talk about growing up in New England and his summers in Nelson, how they shaped his musical influences, and the many connections he discovered when he moved to Texas.
He will speak on his experiences with contradance music, American folk music, jazz, blues, and regional musics of the southwest, including Texas swing, Cajun music, Dixieland and brass band music. Examples will be played on clarinet and saxophone and some recordings of bands he works with in Texas. Paul has been playing and teaching professionally for over 30 years.
Bands that Paul performs or has performed with include Marcia Ball, Doyle Bramhall, Malford Milligan, PK Sax, Manteca Beat, The Klemperer Group, My Exotic Other, Mark Rubin's Rubinchik Yiddish Ensemble, James Hinkle Band, The Jazz Pharaohs, The Jitterbug Vipers, Golden Arm Trio, Austin Jazz Band, Alpine Express, La Strada and many more.
