But, before we celebrate our heritage during the week of August 12th through the 18th, let's see what else is in store ...

@ Fairgrounds at Village Field Farm in Nelson, NH.

Parking will be in the town square and signs will guide you to the fairgrounds!!!
Featuring:
Miniature food, entertainment, exhibits and diversions all created by kids!
Come see an entire town in miniature!!

Knitters & Crocheters Club
Knitters & Crocheters If you love to knit or crochet or would like to learn, this is the place for you. Our members have a combined experience of hundreds of years of knitting and crocheting. At every meeting tips and patterns are freely shared and the coffee pot is always on.

Call 847-3231 to confirm meetings dates and times.  Our next meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am tomorrow morning, August 2nd, at the Chapel By The Lake.

The VEGGIES in season are in at Charlie and Judi's on Murdough Hill. Stop by the garden stand at the driveway's end (usu. 10-6) or give us a call ahead. Toot your horn loud if you do not see us...we may be deep in the garden. If it is raining, we are set up on our porch (plenty of room to turn around in the drive!) Will pick to order- now how fresh is that? Flowers for your table or as a gift PTO also.
Also Maple Granola! Special requests considered!!
Coming soon! Special on Zucchini baseball bats!The corn will be ready in 3-4 weeks!

Summer Reading is FUN!
Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in our summer reading program at the Library the These programs are geared for children of kindergarten ages through elementary aged kids.  Younger children are welcome, but we suggest that they bring a helper along with them.  The Summer Reading Program begins at 4:00 pm at the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library.

Tuesday, August 7 - Return to Earth
Our outer space journey is coming to an end!  This week we'll be returning to our home planet.  Come celebrate our final adventure together and make a slime jar souvenir.  During this program we'll also test a Hero Engine and listen to the book "Floating Home".

Very Special Saturday Contra Dance
Dudley LaufmanThe Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Nelson Second Saturday Contra Dance at the Nelson Town Hall on August 11th, featuring Dudley and Jacqueline Laufman for the Annual Old Home Week Contra Dance.

Dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with a short workshop beforehand. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening.
Special Admission is $2!!

"The Science Works!"  with The Cabinet of Scientific Curiosities
 
Stephen Lechner introduces his unusual "Cabinet of Curiosities" which, as he explains to the audience, mysteriously appeared on his doorstep one day with a note: "Please look after this cabinet, it is filled with all the dreams and inventions I have been working on since I was a baby." Steve proceeds to open the doors on the cabinet, each one revealing an object or experiment that imparts a science lesson. "Mysteries" in the box include such items as the Mysterious Bouncing Ball, the Laughing Cup, the Color¬Changing Mystery, the Magical Appearing Snow, the Dancing Monkeys, the Traveling Sand¬Bugs, the Anti¬Gravity Spray, and more.
(Funding for Kids, Books and the Arts was provided by the NH State Library, CHILIS, the Cogswell Benevolent Trust, the Bryne Foundation, the NH Library Association as well as a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, also, by the Nelson Public Library)

Fun family-centered activities all day long, beginning at 9:00 am!
Possibly the last bastion of amateur excellence in American sports.  Foot races, frog-jumping, tug-of-war, egg toss, and even more.

Races on the Town Common @ 9:00 am.
Bike race (helmets required) and Nelson Marathon. Please note that the races start at 9:00 a.m.

Book Sale @ Town Hall 9:00 am. - 1:00 pm.
Thousands of great (and once-great) books on every imaginable subject - priced to move!
Get there early for best the selection and to beat the dealers. Dollar-a-bag sale at 12 noon.
All proceeds benefit the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library.

25th Anniversary of the Old Home Day Chicken Barbecue Nelson Congregational Church grounds -
12 noon
Relax and listen to the music of the Nelson Town Band, and applaud as the awards are handed out to the day's event winners!
Barbecue: $9.00 for a half chicken, $6.00 for a quarter-chicken.

Bring your A-game and a towel (or two or three)!
All the youth in town like this event. Most years it's girls against the boys!

Softball Game @ Eagle Field at 3:00 pm.
For those with energy left to give, here's a chance to test your skills with and against Nelson's formidable ball-playing talent. Bring a cooler, a glove, and pick a side.

The annual Nelson Old Home Day Celebration has always been a strong family tradition. We hope you enjoy the whole week of events planned for you and your family!
