Greetings!
Every once in a while events come together in interesting ways. For example, yesterday, as I was elbow-deep in a project, it finally occurred to me that it was Wednesday - and I hadn't yet published this week's issue of the newsletter. I was mortified, thinking that I had let you down by not publishing on time.
However, later that afternoon a wonderful article sent to me by Linda Cates arrived in my Inbox. If I had published the newsletter on Wednesday, as scheduled, then we all would have missed reading it.
So, while I apologize for not publishing yesterday, I'm glad I didn't!

This Evening in the Town Hall
| The Olivia Rodham Memorial Library's Summer Forum Series hosts Rich Popovic and "Locally Grown Music for Locally Grown Kids: Writing and Recording Children's Music in Nelson". The program begins at 6:45 with a musical introduction by Wayland Tolman-Anderson. Rich is well-known to many of us as the lead singer-songwriter of the Irish band Shilelagh Law, but recently he has recorded at his home an album of children's music called "Huckleberry Party". Thursday evening he will share with us, and demonstrate, how he puts together and actually records an album, how to add on parts and reverb and so forth, as well as talk about his song-writing process, turning ideas into songs. Parents are encouraged to bring children, but Rich cautions us that this is not specifically a children's event, with 50 minutes of "music for kids". Rather, it will be a demonstration of music making and recording, with audience participation. For anyone who loves music, here's a fun evening of sing-along and do a bit of recording.
Admission, of course, is always free. |

Let's Dance!
| We invite you to join us for Nelson's 2nd Saturday Contra Dance to be held in the Nelson Town Hall this Saturday evening beginning at 8 pm.
Music will be played by the band Nor'Easter, featuring local personality Dave Eisenstadter calling the steps. Dave Eisenstadter learned to call contra dances at the Nelson Town Hall and now calls at dances all around New England.
Nor'Easter, with Cedar Stanistreet on fiddle, Julie Vallimont playing piano and accordion and Max Newman on guitar, mandolin, and banjo plays a joyous, inspired blend of musical styles, including Irish, Scottish, New England, French-Canadian, and old-time. You won't want to miss hearing their sound!
This event is sponsored by the Monadnock Folklore Society. Dancing begins at 8:00 PM, with a short workshop beforehand. Beginners and singles are welcome and all dances are taught throughout the evening. Admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors. You can call 603-762-0235 for more information, or visit the website of the Monadnock Folklore Society.

 | Have You Reserved Your Space? | The Chapel By The Lake is seeking participants for a Crafts Fair to be held on Saturday, July 21st, from 8 am until 3 pm. The purpose of the event is to provide a venue for local crafters and to raise funds for the painting of the church exterior.
The Crafts Fair is open to anyone who would like to sell hand-crafted items, craft kits, or baked goods. Table rental is $15. If you provide your own table, then the rental charge will be $10 for an 8-foot space.
There is still time to reserve your 'market area' for this year's Craft Fair. However, space is still limited, so we suggest that you make your reservations now. Call Marline Leotta at 446-7857 for more information or to make your table reservation.
