|  Congratulations to our graduating Seniors from Keene High School, and to our graduating sixth graders from Nelson School as well.
You have all done well, and we are so very proud of each of you.

| Music 'pon a Sunday Evening |  THE MONADNOCK FOLKLORE SOCIETY presents a very special Father's Day Concert featuring "ON THE HOUSETOP" on Sunday, June 17th at 7:30 pm in the Nelson Town Hall.
We're excited about bringing back "Housetop" to the Nelson Town Hall!
"Housetop" is a harmony singin', swingin' string band quartet based in Southern Vermont. The group consists of Naomi Morse on vocals, fiddle and mandolin, Erica Morse on vocals and upright bass, Anna Patton on vocals and clarinet and Peter Siegel on vocals, guitar and mandolin.
"Housetop" performs a lively, quirky program of swingy, bluesy, old time American music. Much of Housetop's repertoire is from the 30s and 40s - a high point of American song writing as performed at the time by stars like the Ink Spots, The Boswell Sisters, Fats Waller, and Fred Astaire. It was a time of great musical craftiness: close harmonies and clever, concise lyrics. It's also the music with which entertainers strove to sing and dance the people's cares away, and there's an undertone of hard times, treading the line between sincerity and satire. In the irreverent spirit of Vaudeville, Housetop makes these songs their own, along with whatever else scratches their itch, including jug band tunes, songs penned by Bob Wills, Dan Hicks, the Roches, and their own originals. They round out their program with hot instrumentals: Peter and Erica set the groove for Anna and Naomi's wild renditions of raggy fiddle tunes and little-big-band breaks.

Tax Collector position | Here's your chance to work where you live and play and meet the people who live where you live!
The Town of Nelson is seeking interested applicants to fill the position of Deputy Town Clerk / Tax Collector.
Candidate must be a Nelson resident.
Qualities sought: accuracy, computer proficiency, experience working with others, as well as dealing with the public in a busy office setting. This is a part-time position and training in Concord is required. It is hoped that a candidate would be interested in filing for the position of town clerk/tax collector in March 2013.

Knitters & Crocheters Group
|  Our Knitting and Crocheting Club meets at the Chapel By the Lake in Munsonville every other Thursday morning from 10:00 am until noon. Our next get together will be on the morning of June 21st.
Current members are working on a variety of projects and we'd love to see your project.
If you love to knit or crochet or would like to learn, this is the place for you. Our members have a combined experience of hundreds of years of knitting and crocheting. At every meeting tips and patterns are freely shared and the coffee pot is always on.

Farmers' Market - Nelson
|  The next Farmers' Market will be held on the Nelson Town Common on Friday evening, June 22nd, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 PM.
If it should br a rainy evening, the Farmers' Market will be held inside the Nelson Town Hall.

"Sonic Tonic" and Ice Cream!
|  Sounds like a kind of ice cream soda, huh? On Saturday, June 23rd, at 5:00 pm you are invited to attend the first-of-the-season delicious Ice Cream Social. This Ice Cream Social will be quite the event, highlighting our hometown musicians, playing rain or shine on the grounds of the Nelson Congregational Church. "Sonic Tonic" will be performing for your pleasure as you feast on ice cream complete with all the fixings.
We hope you will mark this date on your calendar so that you can enjoy some yummy ice cream and toppings and some good ol' home-grown music. Portions of the proceeds will go to the Youth Group in support of their upcoming trip.

Town Buildings Committee -
Public Information Session
|  Tentatively scheduled, there will be a Public Information Session held by the Town Buildings Committee on Wednesday June 27th at 7:00 pm in the Nelson Town Hall.
Rick Monahon, architect, will lead an information session about plans for the Library, Town Hall and Old School House. This is your opportunity to tell Rick what is important to you as he begins to work on the master plan for the Town buildings. This is the first step of the grant-funded project that we voted for at Town Meeting this past March.

Summer Reading at the Library
|  Reading can take you places, and this summer the Nelson Library is going out of this world! Kids are invited to join the galactic space adventure Tuesday afternoons at 4:00 pm for an hour of stories, games, crafts, and fun!
Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in our summer programs, the programs are geared for kindergarten through elementary aged kids. Younger children are welcome, but we suggest that they bring a helper along with them.
Tuesday, June 26 - Blast off!
This week we're embarking on our journey to outer space. But, wait! How do you get to space? We'll examine this question and explore the process of space travel as we launch a myriad of balloon propelled rockets, have rocket races, and make our own space ships!
Tuesday, July 3 - What's it Like Up There?
Now that we've gotten off the ground, it's time to discover what it's like to live in space! Join us as we try a fun experiment that simulates how it feels to move in space, and make our own constellation key chains. After we play our group game, we'll read a book about living on a space frontier!
Tuesday, July 10 - Planet Power!
It's time to do some inter-planetary sightseeing! This week we'll have a Moon Walk (the extraterrestrial version of a cake walk) complete with fun prizes and crater cookies. For our craft, you'll get the chance to make your own CD Saturn. Do you know the story of Pluto? Is it a planet? We'll find out all about it in this week's story!
Tuesday, July 17 - The Sun's out ...
Everything revolves around the sun, and we're going to check it out this week! We'll heat things up with a fun game, and a book about the solar system. Have you ever made a paper plate orbit skipper? Now's your chance to make one!
Tuesday, July 24 - Galaxies, Constellations, and Stars-Oh My!
Summer is the perfect time for stargazing! Head to the library and join in on the galactic getaway! We'll be making shooting stars and playing a fun group game called "Star Finder". This week's story is a beautifully illustrated book about constellations.
Tuesday, July 31 - Meteors, Comets, and Things That Fall From the Sky ...
Comets melt as they near the sun? Find out why during this week's summer program! As we make solar system mobiles, play "Unwrap the Meteor", and check out a homegrown Nelson comet, we'll discover all sorts of wacky facts about things that bump around in space!
Tuesday, August 7 - Return to Earth
Our outer space journey is coming to an end! This week we'll be returning to our home planet. Come celebrate our final adventure together and make a slime jar souvenir. During this program we'll also test a Hero Engine and listen to the book "Floating Home".

Friends of the Library - News
|  Library Book Sale
We are once again gearing up for the Annual Book Sale held on Old Home Day, August 18th at the Town Hall. Sorting is beginning June 14th at 9 a.m. in the Library basement. All are welcome to help us sort. The Friends are still accepting donations of books, DVDs, CDs and videos. Please do not give us textbooks, manuals for out-of-date computers, old encyclopedias, or books in really bad shape because they just do not sell. All the money generated from the sale goes to support the Library.
Please bring your donations to the Library during open hours.
There will be a preview for Nelson residents only on Friday, August 17th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Annual Meeting
The Friends of the Olivia Rodham Library will have its Annual Meeting on July 25th at 7 p.m. at the Library. All are welcome to attend. We will have election of officers for the coming year, discuss plans for the Book Sale, and identify projects to fund for the Library.
