Greetings!
Tomorrow proves to be a busy, busy one in our community. Here's why:
We begin with the Knitters and Crocheters Club meeting at 10:00 am in the Chapel By The Lake. Don't be shy! If you like to crochet or knit, or even if you are just beginning to take up this hobby, you will want to meet with others. You can learn a new stitch or two, trade patterns, and show off your current project. Come and join us! The coffee is on!
After the Knitters and Crocheters Club meeting, you have time for lunch and a quick nap. It's off to the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Monadnock Community Market on Railroad Street in Keene at 3:30 pm. You can read the details below.
In the evening tomorrow, beginning at 6:00 pm, you will want to attend the Science Fair at the Nelson Elementary School. The students have been working for a couple of months on their projects and are eager to show them off to you starting at 6:00 pm. The Science Fair runs from 6:00 until 7:00, so you'll have just enough time to get to the next event ...
At 7:00 pm, you have a choice. You can attend Nelson, Then and Now presentation by Alan Rumrill at the Chapel By The Lake. Perhaps you have seen Alan around town recently snapping photos to use in this very special PowerPoint show. This is a free event.
Also at 7:00 pm the Nelson Selectmen will be holding a Hearing Prior to a Special Town Meeting. This hearing will be held at the Nelson Town Hall. If you are qualified to vote in Town affairs, you are encouraged to attend this Hearing in order to discuss the following Article:
"To see if the own will vote to allow the Board of Selectmen to become agents for the Town Buildings Capital Reserve Fund and as such allow them to make withdrawals from the Fund. It is further stipulated that any funds withdrawn by the Selectmen be used only for the purposes including renovations, preservation, and repair of the Town Buildings and for no other purpose. The need for any withdrawal must be posted by the agents prior to their regular meeting of the Select Board and a roll call vote of the majority of the Board will be required to authorize the withdrawal."
You are invited to bring your questions and concerns to this Hearing. See the article below for notification of the Special Town Meeting.

 | Special Town Meeting | A Special Town Meeting will be held on the morning of June 2nd, at 10:00 am, in the Town Hall, to ask the voters of our community to authorize the Selectmen to become agents for the Building Capital Reserve fund. This would allow the Selectmen to cover the cost of the Health and Safety renovations on the Old Brick Schoolhouse (our Town Offices) ordered by the Department of Labor.
No money would be raised at the meeting. This money has already been raised and appropriated to the Town Buildings therefore the process would be a simple posting procedure.
The DRA suggests this is the only special fund to consider using to cover the project as it is already specifically for the Buildings.

 | Hot Dog & Bake Sale to Benefit Youth Group! | Rev. Dawn Garrett-Larsen The Youth Group of the Nelson Congregational Church has met and firmed up plans to sell hot dogs, cold drinks and bake sale goodies on Sunday May 27 following the Church Service. They will have a table set up at 11:15 so that food can be sold before and during the Town Band concert held just before the Memorial Day Parade.
All proceeds from the food sale will go to support five of our local youth who will spend a week on the "Mission Service Bus" from NH to the National Youth Event in Purdue Indiana.
First, the Youth Group will be joining with other young people from New Hampshire and New England UCC Churches on a Mission Service Bus which will stop in Cleveland Ohio for two days of community work in places like local soup kitchens, refugee resettlement organizations and outreach to those who are homeless. The bus will then go from Cleveland to the National Youth Event of the UCC where thousands of youth from all over the country will gather for service, workshops, learning, worship and inspiration.
This National Youth Event takes place once every four years. It is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to be involved in service to the world as well as to connect with other youth around issues of living faithfully.
We hope you will visit our very first Hot Dog and Bake Sale during the Memorial Day celebration. Thank you for your continued support of our Youth Group. |
