Greetings!
Special Town Meeting! A Special Town Meeting will be held on the morning of June 2nd, at 10:00 am, in the Town Hall, to ask the voters of our community to authorize the Selectmen to become agents for the Building Capital Reserve fund. This would allow the Selectmen to cover the cost of the Health and Safety renovations on the Old Brick Schoolhouse (our Town Offices) ordered by the Department of Labor.
No money would be raised at the meeting. This money has already been raised and appropriated to the Town Buildings therefore the process would be a simple posting procedure.
The DRA suggests this is the only special fund to consider using to cover the project as it is already specifically for the Buildings.
You are invited to bring your questions and concerns to this Town Meeting.

 | You Grab a Line and I'll Grab a Pole | On Saturday, May 19th, the Keene Rotary Club will once again hold the annual Kids Fishing Derby at Robin Hood Park off Roxbury Street in Keene. Come as early as 7:00 to register and fish. The event will end at noon with presentation of 12 trophies in four different age groups and there will be a casting contest with prizes as well.
The Rotary Club is purchasing 150 trout to be stocked in Robin Hood Pond and the state matches it with another 150 trout, so there will be 300 hungry trout waiting for the kids! This is a free event for kids under 16 and fishing licenses are not required.

 | "A Night to Remember" Book Discussion | She was the world's biggest-ever ship. A luxurious miracle of twentieth-century technology, the Titantic was equipped with the most ingenious safety devices of the time. Yet on a moonlit night in 1912, the "unsinkable" Titantic raced across the glassy Atlantic on her maiden voyage, with only twenty lifeboats for 2,207 passengers. "A Night To Remember", Walter Lord's 1955 classic novel, is the gut-wrenching, minute-by minute account of her fatal collision with an iceberg and how the resulting tragedy brought out the best and worst in human nature. Some gave their lives for others, some fought like animals for survival.
The Library Book Discussion Group meets on May 21st at 10:00 am. "A Night to Remember" may be borrowed from the Library.

 | Hot Dog & Bake Sale to Benefit Youth Group! | Rev. Dawn Garrett-Larsen The Youth Group of the Nelson Congregational Church has met and firmed up plans to sell hot dogs, cold drinks and bake sale goodies on Sunday May 27 following the Church Service. They will have a table set up at 11:15 so that food can be sold before and during the Town Band concert held just before the Memorial Day Parade.
All proceeds from the food sale will go to support five of our local youth who will spend a week on the "Mission Service Bus" from NH to the National Youth Event in Purdue Indiana.
First, the Youth Group will be joining with other young people from New Hampshire and New England UCC Churches on a Mission Service Bus which will stop in Cleveland Ohio for two days of community work in places like local soup kitchens, refugee resettlement organizations and outreach to those who are homeless. The bus will then go from Cleveland to the National Youth Event of the UCC where thousands of youth from all over the country will gather for service, workshops, learning, worship and inspiration.
This National Youth Event takes place once every four years. It is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to be involved in service to the world as well as to connect with other youth around issues of living faithfully.
We hope you will visit our very first Hot Dog and Bake Sale during the Memorial Day celebration. Thank you for your continued support of our Youth Group. |
