You still have time to get those changes done.  You are most welcome to drop in!

Most of this week will be rather quiet.  However, Saturday is shaping up to be a very busy time here in the community!  There's something going on almost all day long.  Make sure you read below so that you won't miss something that just might interest you.

"Cleopatra ~ A Life" Book Group Discussion
If you think two millennia of dusty research and hoary legend have told us all we need to know about this woman, you're in for a surprise. Stacy Schiff, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author of three highly praised biographies, has dug through the earliest sources on Cleopatra, sorted through myth and misapprehension, tossed out the chaff of gossip, and delivered up a spirited life.

This is the novel that will be under discussion this month when the Library Book Group meets on Monday morning, April 16th, at 10:30 am.

Cleopatra ~ Her palace shimmered with gold but was richer still in political and sexual intrigue. Cleopatra, the wealthiest ruler of her time and one of the most powerful women in history, was a canny political strategist, a brilliant manager, a tough negotiator, and the most manipulative of lovers. Although her life spanned fewer than forty years, it reshaped the contours of the ancient world.

Point to ponder:  Stacy Schiff writes, "It is not difficult to understand why Caesar became history, Cleopatra a legend". What are the differences between the two?

We hope you will come to the library and sign out a copy of this amazing book, read it, and then join us at the library on the 16th.

News from Nelson School
Nelson Elementary School
As we prepare for Spring Break, which is next week, we'd like to thank all of the family members who have attended our school activities this week.  Our Young Authors Tea for the K-2 class were wonderful!  And the Parents' Meeting for the Ferry Beach trip of the 5-6 class was delightful.

We had a wonderful time building window boxes with Mr. Carlisle and Mr. Castor this week, too.  Some of these creations will be offered at our school auction later this month.

Our Library classes will finish out the week for us, and then we are free until April 23rd!  Hopefully, the students will take a few moments out of their busy schedules to clean out their desks before Spring Break.

On Monday, April 23rd at 6:45 the PTO will meet to put the finishing touches to the Auction.  We hope that everyone in town will plan to attend this fun evening.  Our last "Auction Club" meeting will be held after school today at which we will collect the donation paperwork that has come in this week and take photographs of some of the auction items so they can be seen on the auction website.

In case you haven't guessed it, we are looking forward to Spring Break!  As you drive around town next week, keep an sharp eye out for us, 'cause we will be outdoors a lot!

Granite Lake Association Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Granite Lake Association on Saturday, April 21st held at Chapel-By-The-Lake, with the time to be announced.

Call Bruce Wichland 603-847-9120 for more information

Spring Cleaning @ the Library
Our library needs a thorough cleaning of the shelves; dusting, vacuuming, and a good scrubbing. We'll be throwing open the doors and windows and letting the sun shine in on Saturday, April 21st from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

Please contact Susan Hansel at either 847-9918 or susanhansel@gmail.com or Martha Collins at 847-3321 if you are able to lend a hand with this community project.

We are happy even if you only have an hour to give. If you are not sure about your schedule, you can just show up if you have time. Snacks will be available.

This is a Friends of the Library Project and all community members are welcome.

Now Is the Time ...
... to be a part of something BIG on a small scale!
If you are between the ages of 10 and 14, and love to play, The Game Of Village may be right up your alley.

In The Game of Village, you'll join other children to create, design and build a Village in miniature... complete with miniature characters (Peeps) to live in the Village.

Your Peep can be anyone or thing you like, such as a pirate queen, computer whiz, rock star or skateboarder. All Peeps are welcome in the Village.

The Game of Village will be played at the Village Field Farm, 836 Nelson Road, Nelson, New Hampshire 03457.  The Town of Nelson voted to create three scholarships for the children of Nelson to enable them to attend.  If you would like to apply for this scholarship, please Sign Up!

Please send email to village2012@thegameofvillage.org or call Sarah Bollinger at (603) 876-4328 with any questions.

Auction Update!
Please join us on Saturday, April 28th, for the Fifth Annual PTO auction at the Nelson Town Hall.  As you know our community is fortunate to have many hard working members and gifted artists who donate their services and work.

This year the PTO is hosting a Children's Auction from 5:30-6:00 and is providing each child who attends the auction with $10.00 to spend.  Now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning of games, books, videos, toys, etc. that your children have outgrown that are still in very good condition. We hope these ideas will get you started.

Family items have begun to trickle in and with each and every new item displayed, excitement grows.  Please remember to send yours in to us so that it can be cataloged, displayed, and included on the amazing auction website

"How Violins Are Made ~ a presentation"
Two fiddles"How Violins are Made: A Marriage of Art and Science", a hands-on presentation with Hunt Smith will be held at the The Olivia Rodham Memorial Library in Nelson on Wednesday, April 25th, 2012, at 6:30 pm.

The method of making violins was largely complete before the end of the eighteenth century, and while there have been developments as a result of the machine and computer ages, the violin may well be one of the only direct links to the time of the Renaissance. Come spend some time with Hunt as he demonstrates the concepts, philosophies and tools used in this ancient art.
