Today's Quote: "A community needs a soul if it is to become a true home for human beings. You, the people, must give it this soul."
~ Pope John Paul II

All week long the students of Nelson Elementary School have been pouring their hearts and souls into this year's stage production.  You can read more about it below, and we hope you can come and watch the fruits of their labors on Friday.

Also in this issue we have included the names of the candidates and the offices for which they have filed.  There are some really involved community members on the ballot this year.  Kudos and good luck to each and every one.

Have a wonderful week everyone.
NELLs Luncheon Today
There is a change in the NELLs date this month because our First Tuesday Tea fell on February 7th -- the day before the NELLs would usually meet.  So we will all gather today for lunch.  What a treat!

NELL's LuncheonThe NELLs Luncheon is today, Wednesday, February 15th, at 12:30 pm at the Cherry Garden Chinese Restaurant where we have gone several times before -- good food and easy parking!  We'll choose from an extensive lunch menu of Chicken Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef Broccoli, Lomein, Ginger Shrimp and Scallop, just to name a few ... and all dishes are under $10.00!  No wonder it's one of our favorite luncheon retreats.

If you'd like to be on the email list for the monthly NELLs Luncheon, simply email Bert Wingerson.
'Barefoot Through the Music'
Terry Landis has gladly given us permission to embed the following link within this email today.  It's Carol Raynsford's complete Western Highway song, streaming from SoundCloud.  Carol is lead vocal on this one song from Terry Landis' Barefoot Through the Music album.

This is the track featuring Carol's beautiful, clear voice:

Keene Food Service Informational Session
Keene Food Services is pleased to announce that they will be holding an Informational Session on Wednesday, February 15th, in the Keene High School Auditorium at 6:30 pm.

The National School Lunch Program has been the focus of much media attention in the past few years. We invite you to come and see how all school food service programs are not created equal and learn everything you ever wanted to know about the Food Service Program for SAU 29. The new regulations for Nutritional Standards in the National School Lunch Program that were just released by the USDA will be presented!

Other topics that will be included are:
National School Lunch Program - Facts and Myths
What are the program requirements?
What is offered?
An independent film - "Lunch Line" to be shown
Free and Reduced Meal benefits

Come and get the truth about school meals. The event is open to the public and we hope to see parents, staff, students, and the community members there.

Children's Stage Adventures and
Nelson Elementary School present
"The Emperor's New Clothes"
Children's Stage Adventures"Set in the frontier town of Royal City, this year's Nelson School's culmination of the week-long residency with Children's Stage Adventure's adaptation of  "The Emperor's New Clothes",  is a new musical telling of the popular tale by Hans Christian Anderson, joined with the spirit of the American West.

While on a world tour, the clothes-collecting Emperor of Snobsylvania and his entourage stop for a visit in the railroad town of Royal City. The citizens of Royal City are star struck by the presence of real honest to goodness royalty and the Emperor is positively enchanted by the wardrobe of the American Cowboy. A pair of no-good carpetbaggers takes advantage of everyone by posing as tailors to swindle the Emperor, selling him non-existent clothes. The town is giddy: caught up in the glamor of the royal visit and the antics of the swindlers.

Ultimately everyone learns the lessons of standing up against peer pressure and using reason with good judgment to see the truth."
                                                    ~ Children's Stage Adventures

We hope you will come to the Keene High School Auditorium on Friday, February 17th at 6:30 pm to enjoy this wonderful production which involves each student of the Nelson Elementary School.  The admission is completely free.

Book Discussion Group @ the Library
The Library Book Discussion Group will meet Monday morning at 10:30 on February 27th.  We will be discussing the book "Tiger's Wife" by Tea Obreht.

Book Synopsis:  In a Balkan country mending from years of conflict, Natalia, a young doctor, arrives on a mission of mercy at an orphanage by the sea. By the time she and her lifelong friend Zóra begin to inoculate the children there, she feels age-old superstitions and secrets gathering everywhere around her. Secrets her outwardly cheerful hosts have chosen not to tell her. Secrets involving the strange family digging for something in the surrounding vineyards. Secrets hidden in the landscape itself.

Books may be taken on loan from the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library to be read in preparation for this discussion.  We hope you will be able to join us for this monthly event.
