Please email gingerpiper28@gmail.com with what you would like to perform and an estimated time. Afterward, there will time to gather at the Town Hall. Food for a potluck meal can be dropped off at the Town Hall ahead of time. ~
Library Book Discussion Group
The Library Book Discussion Group of the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library will meet on Monday morning, January 23rd, at 10:30 am to discuss "A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother" by Janny Scott.

This New York Times bestseller takes an unprecedented look into the life and character of the woman who raised a president.

Barack Obama has written extensively about his father but credited his mother for "what is best in me." Still, little is known about this fiercely independent, spirited woman who raised the man who became the first biracial president of the United States. This book is that story.

In 'A Singular Woman', award-winning New York Times reporter Janny Scott tells the story of this unique woman, Stanley Ann Dunham, who broke many of the rules of her time, and shows how her fierce example helped influence the future president - and can serve as an inspiration to us all.

Geoffrey Schillemat will be hosting a spaghetti supper on Saturday, January 21st, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm  at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 130 Summit Road in Keene.  He is selling tickets to the dinner at $7/adult or $5/child and donations are also gratefully accepted.  You can call at 847-9785 or 852-6074, if you are interested in coming to the dinner.

His Eagle project is to build a bulletin board at Center Pond, to contain all the signs about regulations and such in one attractive place instead of scattered on trees. It will be similar in size and style to the bulletin board at the Granite Lake boat landing.

Johnny Trombly Scholarship

Applications are now available for the 2012 Johnny Trombly Scholarship.

The Johnny Trombly Memorial Scholarship was established by the Monadnock Folklore Society in 2001, at the request of Bob McQuillen who provided an initial endowment. Named in honor of Bob's mentor, the Scholarship is awarded annually to an individual under the age of 18 who would like to study traditional New England contra dance music.

The scholarship provides up to $500 for students to use for lessons, mentoring, music and dance camps, etc. The money is intended to be used directly for fees related to these opportunities, not for music, instruments, or other tangible items. In considering applications, the Monadnock Folklore Society board is open to creative ideas within these parameters.
