Greetings!

This week's issue if FULL!  There's so much to do, so many places to go, so many opportunities to gather with friends and neighbors!  And there's still the baking, shopping, and wrapping to do.  Busy!  Busy!  Busy!

With all the 'busy' of this month, please don't forget to take extra good care of your health.

A Message From Senator Kelly Ayotte
"New Hampshire residents who are looking for help dealing with the federal government shouldn't hesitate to contact me. I believe strongly that the citizens of our state deserve quality, efficient constituent services, and I will strive to deliver nothing less. A member of my staff will be visiting your town in the near future."

The representative from Sen. Ayotte's office will be at the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library tomorrow afternoon, (December 8th), from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm.  We hope you will be able to attend.
No School December 9th
There will be no school on Friday, December 9th.  The teachers will be meeting with the parents and guardians of our Nelson Elementary School students for Parent-Teacher conferences.  If you have not scheduled your conference time with your child's teacher, please call the school at 847-3408.

Nowell Sing We Clear
Nowell Sing We ClearThe Monadnock Folklore Society presents "Nowell Sing We Clear" on Friday, December 9 at 8:00 PM at the Dublin Community Church. $15/$12(senior, youth & advance internet sales).  Our sincere apologies for listing the date as December 3rd in last week's newsletter.

This will be the thirty-seventh touring season of "Nowell Sing We Clear" with its unusual songs, carols, stories, and customs. Drawn mostly from English-language folk traditions, the songs tell both a version of the events and characters involved in the Christmas story and detail the customs which make up the twelve magical days following the return of the light at the winter solstice. Many of these ancient customs are the basis of the today's holiday traditions, such as visiting and feasting, gift-giving, carol singing from door-to-door and the adorning of houses and churches with garlands of evergreen.

For more information or for ticket information, please visit the Monadnock Folklore Society

Country Christmas Bazaar
The Munsonville Ladies Group will hold its annual Country Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 10th, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.

New this year will be a silent auction, featuring 5 beautiful items.  Also new this year will be a raffle for themed Christmas baskets.

The Tea & Dessert Table will be open at 9:00 am and the Light Lunch Table (featuring chili, vegetable soup, corn or clam chowder and a sandwich) will be open at 11:00 am.

This is the largest fund raiser for the Chapel By The Lake.  Proceeds from this event help local families in time of crisis, purchase clothing for needy children, help fund educational trips for the students at Nelson and Stoddard Schools, support mission trips, and help to purchase heating oil for the church.

For more information please call Charlotte at 847-3212, or Marline at 446-7857.

The Classifieds / Marketplace for Nelson and Munsonville is now open and excepting your local crafts and goods for sale to the public this holiday season.

We had such success last year with this project and we are hoping to do even better this year.

You don't have to be a 'business'.  You can just be a hobbyist who has items to sell as gifts.  Or perhaps you do a service and believe that someone may just purchase a home-made Gift Certificate from you to bestow upon a friend or family member.

Listing in the Marketplace is completely free and this message reaches over 200 subscribers.  So - what are you waiting for?

Moving In Step Board Meeting
People at a meetingThe next Board of Directors meeting of Moving In Step will take place on the evening of December 15th at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Dave Birchenough on Nubanusit Road.

All Board members are encouraged to attend, as well as each Committee Chair or the appointed representative.
Mayhem & Merriment - December 17
Winter Solstice DanceOn Saturday, December 17 we'll hold our Annual Solstice Party starting at 7:00 PM.
The Monadnock Folklore Society brings this community event to the Nelson Town Hall each year, admission is $5, and treats are appreciated for the dessert potluck.
This year the evening will begin with a holiday concert featuring a selection of traditional and original seasonal music; as part of the concert 2011 Johnny Trombly Scholarship recipients will entertain us with their musicianship. The Folklore Society invites you to bring along your favorite holiday dessert and we'll supply the beverages for the intermission. After the concert the chairs and benches are cleared to make way for a traditional New England Contradance.

Unfortunately, or not, the dance is often interrupted by various groups of unsavory characters presenting their idea of seasonal entertainment. These diversions, sometimes involving costumed individuals making complete fools of themselves or performing ancient ritual dances to help us through this dark time of the year, are generally tolerated as once they are applauded and fed we can return to dancing the night away.

Children's Pageant on December 18th
The Nelson Congregational Church invites you to enjoy the Children's Christmas Pageant on Sunday, December 18th, at 9:30 am.  The children have been working so hard on this endeavor under the guidance of Becky and Jane.

If you have not already done so, please deliver your gifts for the Giving Tree to the church on Sunday, December 18th, as well.
Nelson School Community Sing-A-Long
carolersThe staff and students of Nelson School invite you to join in a Community Holiday Sing-A-Long on Monday, December 19th.

Let's gather together in the Multi-Purpose Room at 1:30 pm to sing some of our favorite holiday songs.  Light refreshments will be served.  This annual event is always looked forward to by the students!  We hope you can be here with us.
Library Book Discussion Group
The Floor of Heaven
On Monday morning, December 19th at 10:00 am, we will be discussing "The Floor of Heaven: A True Tale of the Last Frontier and the Yukon Gold Rush"

by Howard Blum

Books may be borrowed from the library.

This is a narrative history set before, during and just after the rush. Blum traces the lives of three storied men - a prospector, a cowboy turned Pinkerton detective and a notorious conman - whose fates intersected in an armed confrontation over a stash of gold in 1898. That incident comes fairly late in the book and could even be viewed as somewhat anticlimactic, but getting there is so much fun that it hardly matters. The face-off between Blum's three principals in the harbor of Skagway, Alaska, is really just a pretext for spinning yarns about three remarkable American characters.

The Library Book Discussion Group meets in the Olivia Rodham Memorial Library on the third Monday morning of each month at 10:00 am.

Pancake Breakfast Time!
Pancake Breakfast'Twas the morning 'fore New Year's
And all though the school
Came the aroma of Charlie's pancakes
Sure does make your mouth drool!

The flapjacks are stacked
In a glorious manner
Served by the amazing young students
Of the class of Ms. Benner.

On butter! On syrup!
Pour juice and hot tea!
Add breakfast meat and potatoes,
And 'cakes gluten-free!

So we hope you will come
To our breakfast this time
From 8 'till 11
We'll treat you just fine!

OK.  So this part won't rhyme.
Just make plans to come to the next Pancake Breakfast at the Nelson Elementary School, Saturday morning, December 31st, from 8:00 am until 11:00 am.  Each plate is just $7.00, and yes, there will be gluten-free options as well.
