 | New Hours for the Town Offices | Teri Upton, Town Clerk As of December 6, 2011, the office hours for the Selectmen and for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector will be Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9am until Noon, and Tuesday evenings 5pm until 8pm. The office will not be open to the public on Wednesdays. Due to state budget cuts, the state Municipal Agent desk (vehicle and boat registration desk) will not be available during all of our open hours. They are open Tuesday evenings, therefore we are changing our hours so that we will have back up if we need to call them. The Selectmen agreed that we should be open the same evening, not two separate evenings, and have agreed to change their hours as well. As well, in November, the office, both the Selectmen and the Clerk/Collector, will NOT be open Wednesday evening Nov. 23, or Thursday Nov. 24, Thanksgiving Day. Thanks so much, Teri |
 | Nelson School Forum

Dear Nelson friends and neighbors,
Many of you had expected a meeting to be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, with the Nelson School Board concerning the Nelson School Forum Follow-Up. We regret to announce that, due to scheduling, this meeting cannot take place.
We are still working on the formation of our committees, with willing volunteers. These were chosen out of many of the possible options from the forums, as being the most time-sensitive, and needing a concentrated group willing to study in detail a way to help continue the school in our town.
The committees will:
*Research the application process and the pros and cons of forming a charter school.
*Track the current legislation at the state government level re the voucher system of school funding, with an eye to drawing non-resident students to tuition at Nelson school.
*Develop an effective marketing campaign to draw families to our Blue Ribbon School (and town!).
*A liaison group to work with the town of Sullivan as they decide where to send their students, pending their possible departure from Monadnock Regional School District.
If you have an interest in any of these committees, or would like to be kept informed as to the progress of the Nelson School Board, please email Kelly French or Allison Aldrich.

 | November at the NCC | Over the summer we lost one of the pillars of our church, Dorothy "Dot" French. A memorial fund has been established in her name that will help support the church for many years to come. If you would like to make a donation to the Dot French Memorial Fund, no matter how large or small, please send your check to: Nelson Congregational Church UCC, 830 Nelson Road, Nelson, NH 03457. We invite you to bring to church donations of healthy foods with which to help fill our Thanksgiving Baskets and to help stock our food pantry. We will be filling the Thanksgiving Baskets after the Worship Service on Sunday, November 20th. Please consider your donations carefully and bring healthy items that will help to make a meal. If you bring a can of tuna, consider bringing noodles and a creamed soup with which to make a casserole. Or, if you bring pasta sauce, how about some pasta to go with it, or a cornbread mix with some rice or beans. We are so very grateful for any and all donations from our community. Remember, even '1' can fight hunger! As is the custom for the church, there is a list of items needed for this year's Thanksgiving Baskets posted on the Church Bulletin Board. You may also email the church at nelsonchurchucc@gmail.com |

 | November Meals On Wheels | This is just a quick reminder to our Volunteer Drivers and our 'Lunch Guests'.
There will be no delivery of the Meals on Wheels Program on Friday, November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving. We will resume regular deliveries on Monday, November 28th.
Keep in mind, too, that as winter approaches, and the snow falls heavily on the Hills of Nelson, that we may have to cancel a day or two here and there. Stay tuned to WMUR TV and if they annouce "No School" for our area, then there will be no Meals on Wheels delivery on that day.

 | Nowell Sing We Clear
| The Monadnock Folklore Society presents "Nowell Sing We Clear" on Friday, December 3 at 8:00 PM at the Dublin Community Church. $15/$12(senior, youth & advance internet sales).
This will be the thirty-seventh touring season of "Nowell Sing We Clear" with its unusual songs, carols, stories, and customs. Drawn mostly from English-language folk traditions, the songs tell both a version of the events and characters involved in the Christmas story and detail the customs which make up the twelve magical days following the return of the light at the winter solstice. Many of these ancient customs are the basis of the today's holiday traditions, such as visiting and feasting, gift-giving, carol singing from door-to-door and the adorning of houses and churches with garlands of evergreen.
For more information or for ticket information, please visit the Monadnock Folklore Society. |
