Greetings!
So much to talk about this week! An October snowstorm ... the Great Harvest Supper ... our First Annual Halloween Party ... and now, November is here! What new challenges will we face as a community? What new memories will we make? Who will we greet as a new friend?
What will we be thankful for this November 2011?

 | 1st Thursday Pot Luck Supper
| Let's all meet tomorrow evening, November 3rd at 6:30 p.m., in the Henry Melville Fellowship Hall of the Nelson Congregational Church for a community Pot Luck Supper.
We never know what's going to be on the menu, but the conversation is always lively. Probable topics just might be: the Great Harvest Supper, the Halloween party and the fantastic show of community support for the event, a presentation of ideas for some winter-time activities, and hopefully, an update from the TBC.
See you there! |
 | Who Would Have Thought? | Who would have thought that we'd get over two feet of snow the evening before our First Annual Halloween Party? Who would have thought that despite all that snow, so many children would attend the party?
It was a great time! There were so many wonderful costumes ... most of them home-made. The games and activities were so well organized and presented by Ms. Benner and Ms. Whippie of Nelson Elementary School fame. Don Carlisle and family even created a stunning Halloween Bean-Bag-Toss game for the, um, kids to play.
Thank you Nelson community for coming together to make such a memorable Halloween event possible for the children. Thank you to the organizers, thank you to the 'chaperones', and thank you to the many people who dug themselves out of their driveways in order to make sure that the young folk had a wonderful afternoon!
If you like, you can view some of the photos from the First Annual Halloween Party here. Don't forget that Lee Germeroth also has photos available here. |

 | PTO Meets the First Monday Evening | | The Nelson School PTO will meet on Monday evening, November 7th, at 6:45 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the School.
By the time this newsletter has been published we hope to have heard from Marilyn Chamberlain (Stoddard). As a school, and as the school PTO, we are very intrigued by how the Stoddard Elementary school implemented a green house and added school-grown veggies into their school program. We will also bring forth some All school enrichment activities into the PTO budget for this year.
If you would like to join us, you are most welcome to do so. We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

 | November at the NCC | November is always a busy month at the Nelson Congregational Church, and this November is certainly no exception. The Annual Meeting will take place this Sunday, November 6th, following the Worship Service. This is a new time for the Annual Meeting, so it is hoped that you all have marked it on your calendars. Over the summer we lost one of the pillars of our church, Dorothy "Dot" French. A memorial fund has been established in her name that will help support the church for many years to come. If you would like to make a donation to the Dot French Memorial Fund, no matter how large or small, please send your check to: Nelson Congregational Church UCC, 830 Nelson Road, Nelson, NH 03457. We invite you to bring to church donations of healthy foods with which to help fill our Thanksgiving Baskets and to help stock our food pantry. We will be filling the Thanksgiving Baskets after the Worship Service on Sunday, November 20th. Please consider your donations carefully and bring healthy items that will help to make a meal. If you bring a can of tuna, consider bringing noodles and a creamed soup with which to make a casserole. Or, if you bring pasta sauce, how about some pasta to go with it, or a cornbread mix with some rice or beans. We are so very grateful for any and all donations from our community. Remember, even '1' can fight hunger! As is the custom for the church, there is a list of items needed for this year's Thanksgiving Baskets posted on the Church Bulletin Board. You may also email the church at nelsonchurchucc@gmail.com |
 | Perhaps there are a few tickets left ... | On November 4, 'Godspell' is being performed at the Keene High School at 7:30 p.m. The Nelson Congregational Church will be able to get group-rate tickets for those of you wishing to attend. Give Rev. Dawn Garrett-Larsen a call to arrange for tickets. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. 847-3280
