Greetings!
What a beautiful day we are experiencing today! Isn't it great to live here? The gardens ... the trees ... the hills ... the birds ... all are a glorious part of our little corner of the world.
There's a lot to read about this week, so let's get right to it.
Have a fantastic last week of May!

 | What a Great Evening! | Last Thursday evening parents, grandparents and friends of the very first Strings Violin Program class of the Nelson Elementary School attended the recital held at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. The girls did an outstanding job showing off the skills they had been learning all year under the tutelage of Sarah Kim. Sarah, as you may know, is a member of the renown Apple Hill String Quartet, which performed concerts extensively throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as part of Apple Hill's innovative Playing for Peace™ program. We were honored to have the Quartet play to open the recital. Each of the girls played violin selections with one another as well as pieces in which they soloed. The older girls were even encouraged to put their own special touch to one of the melodies, resulting is some amazing creativity on their part. All of the "Nelson School Strings" members were lauded for their poise and confidence and received a standing ovation for their efforts. The evening was rounded out with Gordon Peery on piano who accompanied Harvey Tolman on fiddle, much to the delight of the crowd. Well done! Kudos to everyone who had a hand in bringing this program to the children of our school. Future performances by the "Nelson School Strings" will be tomorrow for their classmates and again on Monday, June 20th for the 6th Grade graduation ceremonies. Read more >>> |
 | Salamander Crossing? | A sign has appeared on the Harrisville Road just below the village. It reads "Salamander Crossing; May & June, Rainy nights". It was thought that Kathy Schillemat may have placed it there, as she is the Nelson Coordinator for the salamander Migration Crossing, but after contacting her, she replies that she didn't and doesn't know who did.
Does anyone have any idea who might have put it there? We ask, because it would be good if people interested in the salamander crossing communicated with each other, and we would like to know who else is interested.
You can contact Kathy via email. And thanks for helping out our reptilian friends!
