Connections
News that is making connections. . . changing lives

Greetings!
Every 2 minutes, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted.  That means it is very likely you know a sexual assault survivor.  Last year, Pillars served more than 350 sexual assault survivors.  Click here to read the story of one courageous young woman and her mother.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Read on to learn more about this important topic -- your knowledge may help someone in the future.

Thank you for everything that you do to support our work!

Heather Higgins Alderman

Vice President for Advancement

Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Our sexual assault staff has planned numerous events to raise awareness about sexual assault and its effect on communities. The above photo is of The Clothesline Project at Moraine Valley Community College, through which Pillars and the College honored women who have been subjected to sexual assault.  To see more photos, click here

Pillars' Sexual Violence Program has provided comprehensive services to adult and child survivors of sexual abuse or sexual assault since 1982.  Read more about Pillars' Sexual Violence Services and our efforts to commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month by clicking here

If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault and needs help, the Sexual Violence Hotline number is 708-482-9600.

Yvette's Story

Many survivors of rape and other types of sexual assault often don't report the crime because they fear retaliation, humiliation, or stigma. To find the courage to speak out about an abusive situation is incredibly difficult. Nora's daughter was sexually assaulted. She found the courage to get help. Now, she is speaking out to encourage others to gather their courage and seek help. Read more...

Party for Pillars

Party for PillarsPillars is pleased to announce our newest fundraising event -- Party for Pillars!

In a break from our traditional House Tour, Party for Pillars will be a three day event -- Friday June 24th, Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th.

Throughout the weekend, friends of Pillars will open their hearts and their homes to help raise funds for the vital services Pillars provides.

We are grateful to First National Bank of LaGrange, our presenting sponsor, and Smothers Realty and MacNeal Hospital, our lead sponsors!  We are also grateful that Joan Smothers has agreed to be our event Chairman!

Homeowners and businesses from across our shared communities will host fundraising luncheons, cocktail parties, cook outs and dinner parties.  Parties will include everything from a straightforward cocktail party, to an India themed party, to a teen dance party. First National Bank of LaGrange will host the "West End Cook Out", while Courtright's will be hosting a "Summer Entertaining" event and Salon Hype will host a "Blow Out to Go Out" on Friday afternoon.

We look forward to you joining the party!!! Tickets will be available at www.pillarscommunity.org on May 22nd.
