Having an immigrant talent strategy now more than ever is crucial to the growth and sustainability of any businesses. Businesses that do not have a strategy risk losing top talent to their competitors who are more welcoming.

MBOT Participates in Employer Breakfast

(L-R: Majid Khan, Steven Isidori, Rosa Lokaisingh, Jaipaul Massey-Singh)

Mississauga Board of Trade attended COSTI's employer breakfast on Thursday, September 6, 2012. The morning breakfast played host to guest speakers Dr. Yamil Alonso, Jaipaul Massey-Singh and Majid Khan.

The topics of discussion were the importance of immigrant inclusion in our workforce and the power of social networking. Mr. Singh expressed that now more than ever businesses should be considering foreign trained professionals when looking to fill open positions.

There are many advantages to hiring new immigrants said Mr. Singh. For example, during the economic downturn Mr. Singh recalls his father's small car parts business was suffering, but had recently hired a man from overseas. The employee unbeknownst to Mr. Singh's father had business contacts back home, this allowed Mr. Singh's father to put more of an emphasis on overseas markets and grow his business during a time when many others were closing their doors.

Mr. Khan followed up with a presentation on the benefits of utilizing LinkedIn for both job searching and hiring.

Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) is committed to helping immigrants successfully integrate into our workforce through our employer education program ITS in Mississauga.

Are you an employer or HR professional looking to hire foreign trained professionals? Then we encourage you to use our Online Employer Resource Tool.

If you have any questions of comments please contact Steven Isidori, Policy & Research Coordinator at 905-273-6151 ext. 38 or [email protected].
