MBOT Launches New Global Trade
Discussion Forum on LinkedIn

Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) has created a new discussion group on LinkedIn for members that are experienced, knowledgeable or interested in global trade (exporting, importing, sourcing, partnerships, consulting etc.). In the forum you can post articles, participate in discussions, share best practices, advice and referrals, or simply learn from others. The forum is not to be used to "sell" your products or services and will be strictly enforced. This group is exclusive to MBOT members that have a shared interest in global trade.

The discussion group can be found by searching "MBOT Global Trade Forum" in LinkedIn.

 New ITSinMississauga.ca Employer Resource

Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) is strongly committed to serving its business community. Our goal is to foster sustainable economic growth and development in Mississauga, and we offer a wide diversity of business programs and services, and are active on policy advocacy, to help our members and economy reach its full potential.

A key challenge of business these days is attracting and retaining skilled talent. You would not have to search far to find a HR professional who will tell you this there is high competition for the limited supply of qualified candidates (employees) in our country to fill labour demands needed to grow businesses and organizations.

Canada and Mississauga in particular is very fortunate to possess and continue to attract a large pool of well educated, experienced and skilled immigrants, that want and do contribute to our economy and community, however there has been challenges effectively integrating newcomers into our workplaces.

Recruiting and integrating skilled immigrants is a grey area for many businesses that simply don't know where to start, to go about the process, and address any barriers. This is where MBOT's ITSinMississauga program comes into play.

ITSinMississauga (International Trained and Skilled in Mississauga) is an employer focused program delivered by Mississauga Board of Trade, geared at assisting Mississauga businesses with the employment integration of foreign-trained professionals. Through an employer awareness campaign, the program increases awareness amongst employers on the benefits of hiring foreign trade professionals and the resources, tools and services available to support the hiring, integration, training and retention of skilled immigrants.

Part of this service includes an online resource in which employers can utilize to help them through the process of finding, hiring, and retaining internationally-trained professionals. The online resource covers such topics as education, recruitment & retention, mentoring, credential services, and cultural adaptation, just to name a few.

Recognizing we live and conduct business in the digital age, MBOT has decided to launch the employer resource at www.ITSinMississauga.ca. The new employer resource will not only individually profile seven community partners (specially organized by their core services), but will also provide exclusive video interviews with the agencies themselves and local businesses who have used their services. All of which are actively involved in the process assisting/hiring ITSPs.

MBOT believes the new approach is exciting and dynamic and urges employers/ HR professionals to take advantage of it. The proposed launch date is Quarter 1 of 2012, so check back at www.ITSinMississauga.ca under the resource tab for its debut.

For more information about ITSinMississauga, please contact Steven Isidori,
Policy & Research Coordinator, at (905) 273 6151 ext. 38.

MBOT hosted over 40 employers and was attended by over 600 people. Many different sectors lined the atrium of the Living Arts Centre, ranging from large companies such as Bombardier, UPS, Whole Foods Market and RBC Insurance, to local Mississauga SME's such as CisNet and Harmonic Electrical Solutions.
