Urban Prep's Tim King, Chicagoan of the Year
We are excited to announce that Chicago Magazine has named Urban Prep Founder & CEO Tim King Chicagoan of the Year for being "passionate about revitalizing" Chicago.
The feature appears in the magazine's January issue (on newsstands now). King and his fellow honorees will be feted at a luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel this month. In honor of this achievement, the Chicago Tribune Foundation will make a donation to the charity of King's choice. No need to wonder which one he's picked! Click here to see a video of King at Urban Prep's South Shore Campus (the article can be read here).
Additionally, the January issue of Ebony includes King on its "Power 100" list recognizing "folks who are making things happen" in academia, business, entertainment, and technology (among other fields). Kenneth Chenault, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr., Mellody Hobson, Michael Jordan, Spike Lee, and The First Family--Barack & Michele Obama--were among those King joined on the powerful list. While Urban Prep continues to be recognized locally and nationally, we realize our success is not possible without donors and supporters such as yourself. So, as always, we share this recognition with you.

People Magazine Donates $10,000 to UP
Previously, we announced that, thanks to your extensive online voting, Urban Prep Founder & CEO Tim King had been named "Hero of the Year" by People Magazine. The prize for this honor was $10,000 to donate to the charity of his choice. King has designated the money to...drum-roll please...Urban Prep Academies and we received the check from People this week (what a great way to start a new year!). The donation will support vital programs at Urban Prep that prepare students for success at our schools and in college.
