| Dear Friends,
It's been a very active summer here at the shelter! June was a record breaking adoption month, we've had fun fundraisers like our Monthly Fine Wine and Felines, painting at The Tipsy Canvas and our yearly summer time raffle! However, we only thought we wer e busy! The latter part of the year is always our busiest time of the year, with Oktoberfest and our anniversary approaching, our annual matching fund drive, the cat show that we participate in each year, Santa pictures at Petsmart and more! Now is a great time to become a volunteer, as we especially need help this time of year! We have not only been working hard to help our adoptable shelter pets, but all of the feral cats of our city as well. Currently, caretakers of feral cats could be penalized for helping out feral cats (the city has a limit of 6 pets) and if they are turned in to Animal Control they will certainly be put to sleep. We are working hard to bring a new ordinance before the city council that recognizes feral cats are not pets and will allow caretakers to take care of these cats without penalization. It requires the caretaker to have all of the cats in the colony spayed or neutered, ear tipped, microchipped (so they can be returned if they end up at animal control) and vaccinated. Responsible care of these cats will reduce the overpopulation problem, make the current cats living in our neighborhoods better neighbors and reduce the unnecessary killing of thousands of cats each year at animal control. When we have a date for when this ordinance will be sent to city council we will send a special email so you can come to the meeting and support us in our efforts!
Sincerely,
Samantha Person

Volunteer Spotlight Kyle Kane
Kyle has been volunteering with The Cattery since the shelter opened. Now that he is old enough to volunteer without a parent as part of our Youth Volunteer Program he has been a more frequent volunteer of the shelter.
Kyle is always happy to clean up any mess a kitty may make and even helps bathe our incontinent k itty, Virginia, when she gets taken out of her diaper for the evening and put in her 'pajamas'.
He helped make mornings and afternoons at the shelter easier this summer! The more volunteers we have, the faster the cleaning is finished and employees can accomplish other shelter tasks. We couldn't finish all of the work we need to do each day to keep the kitties healthy and the shelter running without them!
You can help out kitties in need too! For more information on volunteering click HERE!

About The Cattery
The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats. From there, we seek permanent, loving homes for these animals. In addition, our organization promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.

Virtu-Adoption Program
|

The Cattery's Virtu-Adoption program is a great way to support The Cattery with an ongoing monthly donation!
There are six cats in the program that will likely live out their lives at the shelter because of medical needs, age or temperament. You pick the kitty you want to support and each month you will get an email and picture of your kitty telling the insider secrets of life in the shelter and general shelter news! Your donation goes into the general operating fund which ensures all off the current kitties in the program have their forever home at The Cattery and that thousands of other cats will have a temporary home while they wait to be adopted! Sign up HERE to help us continue providing our cage-free haven! Excerpt from a letter from Virginia (above) who calls our shelter home due to an injury in the womb that requires her to wear a diaper:
Imagine being less than a year old and living in the kitten room at The Cattery. You've got a pretty good life (minus the baths obviously). So, one day you're minding your own business when a new group of people come along looking for a new kitten. They pet you and coo over your pretty pink outfit. And all is right with the world when suddenly you hear a volunteer describe you as the "mom of the kitten room". The mom? That sounds old, doesn't it? Surely I'm not old enough to be a mom. I'm only a little bit older than these 3 to 5 month old kittens. And that's when you look down and the fact that you're so much bigger than the others in the room makes you feel old. And your pretty pink outfit looks like a maternity dress or a pant-suit that a mom might wear, not the pretty little sundress a young single lady might wear. And, still in shock and trying to understand how your world just changed, you look through the window into the teen room and see some of the cats that used to be in the kitten room with you. That's right. You're the mom of the kitten room now.....
Sign up now to hear from Virginia or one of the other cats in the program monthly!
