The Cattery Newsletter - The Scratching PostMay 2011
Dear Friends,

We continue to be amazed at how many adoptions we are having this year!  We are still averaging 9-10 adoptions per week, which is double our #'s from last year!  Again, GREAT for the kitties, but it involves an increase in expenses to get all of new kitties coming in ready for adoption.

We have lots of great ways you can help the shelter raise badly needed funds, that benefit you as well!  Of course, there is our monthly Fine Wine and Felines that you could attend - its a great way to meet other cat lovers, while giving the shelter kitties some love!  Don't forget they yummy snacks and wine (we have non alcoholic beverages as well).  In addition to this monthly event, this month we have an event for dog lovers as well (and dog/cat lovers)!  The Pooch Pad is hosting their 4th Annual Pooch wash on Saturday June 4th and 1/2 of proceeds will come to The Cattery!  And June is the time for our 3rd Annual Summer Time Raffle!  There are lots of fabulous prizes this year, so don't miss out!  You can read about all of these events throughout this newsletter!

Don't forget, June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!!  We have partnered with the ASPCA and Fresh Step to place as many adult cats in their forever homes this month as possible!

We encourage you to forward this email to as many people as you can by clicking on the forward to a friend button at the bottom of this message.  You may be forwarding to a friend you didn't realize was looking to adopt or even gain us a new supporter that doesn't currently know The Cattery exists.  The more supporters the shelter has, the more good we can do in the community!  After all, it takes a village to save homeless cats!

Sincerely,

Samantha Person
Shelter Director

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!

This year, The Cattery has joined the ASPCA®/Fresh Step® Fee-Waived Cat Adoption Campaign!

Did you know that fee-waived adoptions can benefit not only the animal and pet parent, but the shelter too?

ASPCA research recently published in the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science found that waiving fees for adult cats boosts adoptions without diminishing the value adopters place on their cats. Plus, surprisingly, fee-waived adoptions may actually decrease shelter costs by reducing the average length of stay for adult cats, and also could increase donations and store product sales due to an increase in adopters.

We plan to eliminate the $75 adoption fee we typically charge for cats 1 year and older through June 30th. All other adoption policies and thorough match-making procedures will remain in place. Visit www.thecatterycc.org for more information on the event.

In addition to Adult Fee-Waived adoptions, Teenage Cats, age 5 months to 1 year will have a reduced adoption fee of $30 and Kittens, age 8 weeks to 5 months will have a reduced adoption fee of $60!

Black Cat Adoption Special!

In addition to the reduction of adoption free for National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, to spotlight all of the gorgeous black cats (or mostly black) at our shelter, all black cats will come with a starter kit that includes a bed, cat dishes, treats toys and more!  Now that's something to sing about!

About The Cattery

The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats.  From there, we seek permanent, loving homes for these animals.  In addition, our organization promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.
