Dear Friends,
October was another great month for The Cattery! Our Oktoberfest open house was a success! Many old friends and new ones too, came out to see the cats and our shelter! The event raised $3200 for the shelter and a pile of goodies was donated as well. Most importantly we were happy to celebrate our 3 year anniversary with all of our supporters. The shelter was started right before the recession so we feel we are very lucky to have made it this far and are happy that people get behind and support our mission. Adoptions are still going strong and we are looking forward to the busy holiday season! Check our website and Facebook page for fun things to do at shelter! For example, this weekend, kitties will be dressed in costumes! Hope you all have spooktacular Halloween!
Sincerely,
Samantha Person Shelter Director

Volunteer Spotlight
Renai Baker and Jan Thornton
Renai and Jan love to volunteer! Besides our shelter, they volunteer at the Aquarium, Visitor's Center and several other places. We like to think our little shelter is their favorite place to help out and are glad to have them on a weekly basis! They always seem happy to take on any project and the kitties love them! Thank you Renai and Jan for choosing The Cattery as one of your charities! You too can be a volunteer! Please see our website for more details!

Matching Donation Drive
When people think about The Cattery, they think, "That's a cool place for cats to live until they are adopted - if I were a cat, I would want to live there!" People often don't think about the shelter on a deeper level or think about what each little cat has gone through before they get here. While we do take in owner surrendered cats, a large part of our population hasn't had the cushy beginnings of life that you think of when regarding the typical house cat. Elijah, for example was found on the highway after being thrown from a car. He had a scrape on his chin and his claws were ground down past the quick. Fancy was on death row at Animal Control with four new born kittens - a bullet was buried in her side. Sally somehow broke her leg and pulled herself up to a person's front porch to ask for help, even though she was terrified of people. All of these cats are fine now and available for adoption, but we shudder to think of what would have happened to them out on their own. And there are even more cats out there in situations like this. To help spread the word and fund the work The Cattery is doing in the community, a group of people have come together to hold a matching fund drive - the group will match any donations we receive up to $5000 from now until November 16th. That means this is a great time to donate to the shelter because it will help twice as many kitties! If you donate $25, it turns in to $50, if you donate $100 it turns in to $200! You get the picture! Help us reach our goal of matching all $5000 by sending a check to The Cattery at PO Box 8575, Corpus Christi, TX 78468. Please write 'Matching' in the memo field! You can also donate online on our website or by simply clicking on the PayPal button to pay with your PayPal account or a credit card! Your donation will be doubly appreciated!

| We need people to foster Mama cats and babies! |
Unfortunately we have 3 sets of mama cats with kittens that we need to get into homes ASAP! One was a cat that we didn't know was pregnant when took her in and the other two were dumped here. While some times we are forced to take dumped animals to Animal Control when we don't have space or resources, we felt certain that a kind hearted soul (or 2 or 3) would help us out with these babies! The only space we have for these babies is in a cramped cage and that is no way to grow up! Please call us (or email) if you are able to foster our little families: 361-854-6369 and leave a message under option 8.

About The Cattery
The Cattery offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats. From there, we seek permanent, loving homes for these animals. In addition, our organization promotes public awareness regarding the value of animals and their welfare, the dangers of pet overpopulation, and the benefit of quality human-animal companionship.
8201 Weber Corpus Christi, TX 78415 361-854-6369
Shelter hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12-5pm.
We also do adoptions at Petsmart Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm.

| Thank you to everyone using GoodShop and GoodSearch! The number of people using these services has grown so much this year, that this month alone more money was rasied for The Cattery than all of 2009! GoodSearch is a search engine (powered by Yahoo) that gives 1 cent per search to your designated charity. It doesn't sound like much, but when enough people are doing it, it adds up to quite a bit. And, if you're not already GoodShopping for The Cattery, with the holiday season fast upon us, now is the time to start! You click on the GoodShop icon on the GoodSearch page, and 100s of retailers are listed (Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Sears, Walmart, etc) - pick the store you want and a percentage of your purchase will be donated by the retailer to The Cattery! It costs you nothing, but a few seconds to pick the store from the list. Or if you download the tool bar, you don't even have to do that - it will tell you if you are shopping from a store that participates in GoodShop! Donating other people's money to a charity you love is so much fun! |
