The Scratching Post
Subtitle Month Year
 Dear Friends,

Lots of exciting news this month at The Cattery!  June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, so we have some very nice adoption specials to go along with the celebration!  And as we're always looking for ways to increase our adoptions and to benefit our cats and the community, we have several new programs that will start this month!
I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend to kick off what promises to be a great summer!

Sincerely,
Samantha Person

June Adoption Specials

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!  To celebrate, we are having two adoption specials.  Now, through the end of June, adoption fees will be waived for all of our adult cats.  In addition, all other age groups will have their adoption fees reduced to only $50!  You still get all of the same benefits:  each cat is spayed or neutered, current on vaccines, treated for parasites, free health check and 10 day health certificate from Oso Creek, 1 month of free health insurance, each cat has a microchip, and comes with a free bag of Science Diet cat food!  Most importantly, you will get a great addition to your family!
Black Cat Frenzy!

To put it simply, black cats do not get adopted as often as cats of other colors.  There are many theories as to why, most of which revolve around superstitions and the belief that black cats aren't very expressive.  We know at The Cattery that these ideas are crazy!  In fact many of us at the shelter can tell all of the black cats apart just by looking at them - and a lot of that has to do with their expressions!  As far as superstitions go - most countries besides ours believe black cats are actually lucky!  The truth is, black cats are often said to be less aggressive, less timid and more laid-back than other colors!  To celebrate all of our black cats this month, any black cat adopted will go home with a new comfy bed, bowls, some tasty treats and some toys, thanks to a generous supporter that donated these items!  (while supplies last)
New Program: Seniors for Seniors

Studies show that seniors benefit from the companionship of cats.  Senior cats also benefit from the companionship of humans!  The program really created itself.  The adoption fee will be waived for those over 60 adopting a cat over 5!
New Program:  The Cat's Pajamas

To accommodate our adopter's busy schedules, the shelter will now be open for extended adoption hours the second Friday of each month until 8pm.  Milk and cookies will be served.  Those wearing pajamas will receive $10 off their adoption fee.  With these late hours, we can't promise the kitties will be awake!
Free ways to help The Cattery

There are several ways you can help our shelter that won't cost you a dime!  If you use Fresh Step cat litter and you throw away the Paw Points - send them to us!  We collect them for either coupons or free litter.  Also, give us your used toner and ink jet cartridges.  We participate in a recycling program that pays us for every empty cartridge we turn in.  As always, don't forget to Goodsearch!  Go to www.goodsearch.com, designate The Cattery as your charity and then use this as your search engine.  Every time you search you are earning The Cattery money!  In addition, you can download the Goodsearch tool bar, which will make it easier to search.  From the toolbar, you can even GoodShop!  If you go to your favorite web stores (Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Best Buy, + many more) through the tool bar, a portion of your purchase is donated by the store to the shelter!  At no cost to you!  Your searches and shopping have already raised us almost $120 just since the beginning of the year!  You can't beat donating someone else's money to your favorite cause!
New Program:  Pet Insurance for Adopters

The Cattery is proud to announce a new partnership with Shelter Care Pet Insurance to offer our adopters 30 days of free pet insurance for their new cat, which will cover unexpected illnesses and accidents.  Beginning this weekend anyone who adopts from The Cattery is eligible for this new program.  This, coupled with the free exam and 10 day health certificate from Oso Creek Animal Hospital that adopters currently receive, will provide real peace of mind when bringing home your newest family member!  For more information, visit our website (www.thecatterycc.org), email us ([email protected]) or call us at 854-MEOW(6369)
Remember - Fine Wine and Felines is the first Tuesday of each month!  On June 1st from 6-8pm, come enjoy the company of the kitties and other cat lovers while sipping on some wine and enjoying some tasty treats!  This month we are serving crab salad, chicken salad, deviled eggs, the usual cheeses and maybe some surprises!

A $20 per person donation is requested or a $10 donation per person with the donation of one of the following items:  Hand Sanitizer, Scoopable or Clay Litter, Postage Stamps, Bleach or Swiffer Dry Pads.
As a reminder, our shelter is largely funded by donations from generous supporters like you!  We receive some grants from private foundations, but over 90% of our income comes from people just like you that support our shelter and the work that we do for the kitties and our community.  Please consider signing up for a monthly donation in our Virtu-Adoption program, or even a one time donation through PayPal.  All of our staff and volunteers that work so hard to keep our shelter running and especially the kitties, would really appreciate it!!
