Dr. Poulos is the Chancellor's Professor of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California at Irvine.  His research interests include protein crystallography, protein engineering, and heme enzyme structure and function. He is the recipient of the 2004 Brodie Award from the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.

National Chemistry Week Educator Training Workshop:

October 15 at the College of Charleston  

 

National Chemistry Week is October 16-22, 2011. This year's theme is "Chemistry-Our Health, Our Future!"  

 

Are you prepared to celebrate National Chemistry Week (NCW) in your classroom?

Join us Saturday, Oct 15th from 9:00 - 1:00, to learn fun and engaging hands-on activities and demonstrations to use during NCW and throughout the year! Activities are centered on the 2011 theme "Chemistry - Our Health, Our Future" and focus primarily on the senses, health, and nutrition. The workshop is designed for elementary to middle school educators.

 

Activities include (but are not limited to)...NCW

· The Nose Knows

· Sweet Measurements

· Safe in the Sun

· Pitch Switcher

· Iron for Breakfast

· Temporary Tattoos

· Germs Make Me Sick

· Heart and Lungs

· And Many More!!

 

The cost is$15 per educator. Participants will receive materials to complete the activities in their classroom - just in time for NCW, October 16 - 22! (Materials are worth approximately $100!)

 

There will be door prizes and refreshments!

 

To Register: Email jordans@cofc.edu with your name, school/organization, and grade(s) & subject(s) you are currently teaching. The workshop is limited to 20 educators, so register soon!
