2nd Annual Coyote Hunt
It all started at 6am with breakfast burritos and coffee. Every team went their separate ways knowing they would have to meet back at the weigh in area at 5pm where we had burgers on the grill, refreshments, and Sportsman's Elite goodies waiting for them.
This year we had sixteen teams, which almost doubled last year's attendance and with this increase in attendance also come an increase in the "most dogs" category. Last year the winning team had four dogs but this year the number to beat was nine. With that being said we would like to congratulate Dwayne Morris and his son Stacy for their win and in addition to the most dogs they also turned in a coyote weighing in at a whopping 46 lbs. claiming the "big dog" prize as well.
Our main goal for organizing these events is to get together with friends of the store and hopefully make some new ones. Putting all these people together makes for a great combination of characters, story telling, and somewhere along the way some great hunting. Our intention was is to get a group of people together and have a good time and I'm happy to say that we accomplished that.
On behalf of the owners and the rest of the staff I would like to thank all the participants as well as our volunteers for making this year's hunt so far, and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future.
Thank you very much!

Holiday Gift Ideas
This time of year is one of the busiest for us here at the shop. We are gearing up for the Holiday shopping season and we get a lot of requests for gift ideas. Here are some ideas on some gift ideas for the fly fisherman in your family.
Some of us are very particular on our terminal gear but there are some things out there that we could always use. I know we hate getting socks as gifts but good pair of wading socks is a different story. Simms makes a great line of wading socks and I have received many of them as gifts. It is always good to have several pairs for long trips to keep your feet dry. Fishing hats are another good gift idea.
I know I can personally always use hats for fishing on the water as they keep the sun off my face and help you spot the fish, kind of like the way a car visor helps you see other cars as you drive into the sun. I tend to sweat through a lot of them through the season and can always use a new one to replace the old tattered ones. Beanies are also a good stocking stuffer. If you fish in the winter time, this is one of the most important pieces of gear as it will keep you warm because you lose most of your body heat through the top of your head. We have many options to choose from for all temperatures. One new product we have is like a beanie but more functional. The company is called BUFF head gear and it is the latest product to hit the industry. Buff head gear is a multi-functional garment that can be used as a mask, neck warmer, barclava, beanie, etc. We have Buff head gear in many different colors and patterns, even a camo patterns for hunting. They have a warm weather beanie that protects you from the sun and keeps you cool. Then there is a cold weather version that keeps you warm and protects you from the cold weather elements. For whatever the weather we have a hat or beanie for the occasion.
Another gift idea I often suggest, especially for beginning or novice anglers, is a fly box filled with flies. We as fishermen can always use more flies and it is always nice to get new flies that we didn't have to tie ourselves. As for the fly box, well you can never have enough boxes. I have dozens of them, one for each type of fly and/or each river/stream I fish which means I am always organized and prepared for my next trip.
