Greetings!

Last night we attended the Chamber of Commerce event held at the St. Jacobs Country Inn, Best Western Hotel. It was a great night. The hotel has completed numerous renovations and we were given a tour of various renovated rooms. Waterloo Region Tourism Tourism spoke at the meeting and the message was clear: small business and entrepreneurs are key to a thriving economy in our region and tourism is on the rise. The Best Western is a perfect destination for visiting friends or family to get acquainted with our Region!

We like to support our area and other small businesses. Recently we tried to watch The Hunger Games at Empire Theatres. Wow...shows were sold out hours in advance. We turned to Frederick Twin Cinemas, a smaller theatre within Frederick Mall. Only 30 people at that theatre and we had great service at the counters and our pick of seats. It might not be IMAX or the latest surround sound seats, but it was comfortable, not crowded and inexpensive. Another favourite movie location for our family is The Mustang Drive-In. Sit in your car, turn the radio on and enjoy on the Big Screen! If we arrive early, we kick a soccer ball around, throw a frisbee or just chat with the neighbouring vehicles. Kids 12 and under are free and the Carload Nights are the best value. You can usually catch our family at the drive in on the long weekends when 3 movies are playing...a must I am told from our children/grandchild.

Our Mulch Yard is up and running! For pricing and availability, please visit Our Mulch Page. We are currently carrying shredded native pine mulch and black shredded native pine mulch. We deliver to your door in bulk (no bags) or you can pick up at our yard if you call ahead (519-465-1121). April is the perfect time to get those gardens raked out, edged, cultivated and mulched before the weeds get a chance to take over!

Our Spring Special Maintenance Program is available only till April 30th. Please visit our website for more information.

Don't forget about our Facebook Contest. Submit your photos of your worst landscapes and the most "likes" will receive a free landscape design by our Landscape Designer, Matt Shushack.

Our first Retaining Wall of the year will be started today.  Pictures as we go will be posted to facebook & twitter.  Follow us to see step by step.

STORM WATER CREDIT UPDATE

Yesterday marked the start of the REEP Green Solutions Rain program in our Region as well. Rob had the privilege of being invited to the ceremonies held at the REEP house on Mill St., Kitchener.

RAIN, is an innovative, first of its kind program in Kitchener and Waterloo. RAIN will educate, motivate and inspire property owners to get involved with stormwater management. RAIN provides several easy, innovative ways that will help property owners take part in the local credit programs and help the environment. Funding for the program comes from the Ontario Ministry of Environment, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the City of Kitchener's Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF). The program is offered in partnership with the City of Waterloo.

Visit their website (click link above) to find out how you can win a RAIN Umbrella!

This spring, Kitchener and Waterloo residents can help the community, protect local waterways, and keep more money in their wallets every time it rains. How? It can be as simple as planting a tree or installing a rain barrel. Almost everything we do affects water quality and every member of the community can be part of the solution. Rob has been very active with stormwater management: he has spoken at City of Kitchener Council meetings and City of Waterloo Council meetings regarding the maximum rebate a homeowner can receive.

WE CAN HELP YOU GET YOUR STORMWATER CREDIT.

Credit applications are not going to be available till the fall, but what you do now to manage your stormwater runoff will help as the credits will be retroactive to January 1, 2011. Call our office (519-895-0450) for a free consult and quote.

For your viewing pleasure, here is a recent video of "The Rainwater Game" from Dresden, Germany.   They caution: Don't drink the water.

SMART ABOUT SALT IN THE NEWS

The Ontario Parks Association (OPA) presented the "Protecting Tomorrow Today" award to the Smart About Salt Council for its work to reduce salt used for winter de-icing. Salt can have long term effects on our environment, vegetation, and our waterways. The OPA motto "Protecting Tomorrow Today" is a commitment to civic beautification and the advancement, protection and conservation of parks, open spaces and the environment in the Province of Ontario.

Chris Ziemski, Vice President, OPA Board of Directors explained, ""The Smart About Council is an organization that the Ontario Parks Association truly respects and admires! Their focus on educating the snow maintenance world on the proper use of road salt and de-icing products is paramount to protect our environment from the damages of chlorides. They are true environmental stewards and deserve our recognition in "Protecting Tomorrow Today."

"TNT Property Maintenance is recognized by the Smart About Salt Council as a Smart About Salt™ certified contractor."

STROKE HAS A NEW INDICATOR

Stroke Indicators for years has been always remembering the first 3 letters of stroke:

S:  Ask the person to SMILE

T:  Ask the person to TALK and Speak a simple sentence coherently.

R:  Ask the person to RAISE both arms.

New Indicator:  The Tongue.  Ask the person to stick out their tongue.  If the tongue is 'crooked' or it goes to one side or the other, it could be a sign of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.  It is crutial that a stroke victim get medical attention asap.
