March 2012

Coming Soon: IRC Youth Garden!
Funding made possible by a grant from the National Recreation & Park Assoc.
Irving Recreation Center is launching a neighborhood-based  vegetable garden project intended to connect youth to nature, gardening, fresh food, and nutrition education. Garden activities will introduce young people to sustainable food sources, the nutritional importance of healthy fruits and vegetables, outdoor activity, conservation, environmental stewardship, and food preparation.

Our garden will be located in Irvingdale Park and current plans consist of 4 raised beds, gated fencing, mulched paths, and 2 fully enclosed compost bins. Funding is made possible through a grant from the National Recreation and Park Association's "Grow Your Park" program.

Any student with a green thumb or who might be interested in learning about gardening should hang out with our Garden Club Tuesdays in March from 3:15-4:30. Spread the word!

Valentine's Dance a BIG Success!
200 students attended this safe, fun, and memorable social event at Irving Rec. Center on Friday, February 10.  A special thanks to everyone who lended a hand to make it a success.
