Greetings!
Neeki PhotoThe Center is a regular contributor to the Special Olympics and this year we are asking for your support to help us raise at least $1,000.00. Don't worry - there's something in it for you too!

Remember all those times I promised you "delicious" herbs - the ones most people said tasted like dirt? Well, now it's time for your revenge. If Neeki Photowe're successful in our fundraising, not only will you be helping a truly wonderful cause, you will also help throw me off the Wachovia Tower (30 stories) in downtown Raleigh!

Over the Edge NC helps you "toss your boss", or in this case, "stick it to your acupuncturist". Ahh...sweet revenge.

For additional information, please visit
Over the Edge. The event is scheduled for October 2nd (with video of me crying and shaking to be posted shortly after!).

Donations may be made at First Giving

Thank you for your support!

Acupuncture & IBS

In traditional Western medicine, Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is often a "catch all" phrase used to describe gastrointestinal symptoms of unknown causes. In Oriental Medicine however, there is no such disease or condition.

Symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating and pain have been treated for thousands of years, and are well documented in traditional Chinese texts. These symptoms follow well known patterns such as Spleen Qi Deficiency or Liver Qi Stagnation which involve the flow of energy and/or the harmony of the digestive organs. Chinese herbs may also play a role in treatment, once the IBS has been accurately diagnosed according to the principles of Oriental Medicine.

Additional information may be found hereor join me at Earth Fare Brier Creek on July 7th where I will be presenting a class on this topic and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please visit our website for details.

So what is this Rolfing thing anyway?
Neeki PhotoYou may have noticed a new therapy in the office that you've never heard of: Rolfing.  Rolfing is the therapeutic massage system pioneered by Dr. Ida Rolf in the '50s that focuses on connective tissue or fascia to realign the body.  Through patterns of use, stress, aging, and injury, our bodies become pulled out of alignment by our fascia; Rolfing works to free these restrictions, allowing the body to return to a more upright, efficient, and healthy state.  Rolfing is a therapy that can benefit almost everyone, and is used on all ages from newborns to the elderly, and from desk workers to professional athletes.  By working with the whole body system, Rolfing seeks to resolve the root causes of dysfunction and pain rather than simply alleviating the symptoms.  To learn more, visit Raleigh Rolfing You may also be interested in this video.

Introducing NC Parent Consultants

"Parenting is a journey... let us help you find your way."

In April, 2010 Wake County School System eliminated comprehensive parent services at Project Enlightenment, an early intervention program in Wake County. Three of the former parent consultants launched NC Parent Consultants to continue providing the services that parents have had access to for over 40 years through Project Enlightenment. Our staff consists of Karen Buchanan, Michelle Chachkes and Toqui Kennedy, each with decades of experience providing guidance for families. The best news of this change is that we can offer services to families with children of all ages who live in Wake or surrounding counties.

We understand that parenting is the critical component to preparing children to be successful in life. Since children don't come to you with a manual, we offer an array of services providing a "how to" for parents with children of all ages. Those services include individual parent consultation, workshops for parents and providers, or on-site workshops for organizations.

Parent consultation is a way to get one-on-one parenting guidance with a variety of concerns.  We are able to meet with you in our office or in your home, depending on your location. The consultation and workshops would address concerns such as discipline issues, school performance or behaviors, adoption issues, family stress, or managing angry feelings.

Upcoming workshops are scheduled for July on the topics of Parenting Your Child With Special Needs: The Joys and Challenges and It's Not Too Late to Be Kindergarten Ready...

Please check out NC Parent Consultants for information on enrolling in a workshop or requesting consultation or you can call us at 919-389-9827.
