JOURNEY SCHOOL TEACHERS 2012-2013
|
Teachers are at the heart of any great school. Journey School values its teachers tremendously; and, we understand we must support them in important ways. We launched the Waldorf Master's Degree/Certification program in partnership with Rudolph Steiner College in 2011. To earn their graduate degrees, teachers spend about 3 weeks each summer at Rudolf Steiner College, along with year-round seminars, webinars, and weekend workshops at Journey School.
The Journey School website has been updated with all new biographies for the 2012-2013 school year. Administration pages have also been added to the website. We are pleased to announce Patti Connolly will be serving as Co-Educational Director with Bonnie River next year.

FINALIST IN CHANGEMAKER COMPETITION
|
Developed by our Education Director, Bonnie River, our Compassionate Campus program uses the power of student-to-student interactions to build real-life skills that cultivate empathy.
The field of 15 finalists for the Activating Empathy: Transforming Schools to Teach What Matters competition (Ashoka Changemakers), has been reduced to just a handful and Journey School is still in the running! While we hope to win a grant, just getting this far is an accomplishment and reflects well on our collective work, students, and campus. THANK YOU!
Thanks also to all those who voted for a special award. We will announce results as soon as we know.

The talent show was a great success and our students' talents were highlighted in the Aliso Viejo Patch article entitled Students Sing, Dance and Toe Whistle for Talent Show! Thank you to Linda McGee, Diana Corbo, Jon Heneveld and all the parents and students for planning and sharing your many talents. A special thanks to volunteer parent Nirzhar Pradhan of Pradhan Studios for his collection of black and white photos of the event.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for our Volunteer Appreciation Lunch and to our volunteers who couldn't join us. Your dedication and hard work immeasurably enriches our school.

- $350 Install irrigation lines to three new kindergarten trees (Irrigation installed by Angel Pena)
- $1150 Erik and Brad's proposal to secure garden planter boxes from critters with wire and bamboo and to hire a professional to install an electrical outlet on exterior of building.
- $1000 3rd grade garden enhancement. Critter protection and planter box repairs.

The Garden Crew has set a loose schedule to gather on Tuesday mornings during the summer around 8am to keep our outdoor classrooms healthy and ready for students in the fall. We welcome all volunteers -- whether you have a green thumb or not.
