WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?

What is a charter school?

How can I effectively inform others about charter schools?

Click here to watch a wonderful 1-minute video created by the California CharterSchools Association-our statewide advocacy group. This video, and many other resources, are now featured on the Journey School website-just click on "Parents."

UNDERSTAND JOURNEY SCHOOL
Why is the Journey School charter document so important? What does it actually say? And, how can I use it to become a more effective school ambassador? Click here to read the Journey School Charter, which succinctly states our purpose, practices, values, and commitments. And, click here for our new companion study guide that will direct you to key pages in the charter document. Also, please send us your own study questions (info@journeyschool.net) which we can then publish on the website.
ECOLITERACY

Our ecoliteracy program was featured on the California Charter School Association blog.

UPCOMING FESTIVALS & CELEBRATIONS
Life at Journey School is greatly enhanced by a host of festivals and celebrations held throughout the year. These festivals mark the passage of seasons and holidays, significant milestones, or key moments. Many of these events are now happening. Please click on the links which follow to stay well informed: Play performances, field trips, musical performances, Reverse Rose Ceremony, Rainbow Bridge Ceremony, Volunteer Appreciation, and Graduation. A summary of all the festivals can be read on the website under "Calendar."
TALENT SHOW
Come one, come all! Journey School's Talent Show is almost here!

Journey School's 8th Grade Class presents:

"Dinner and a Show"

Journey Talent Show

Saturday June 2nd, 2012
6:00 to 8:30pm

470 Camino San Clemente
San Clemente, CA 92672

We are thankful to the Mormon Church for their generosity in sharing their beautiful venue. A complimentary Italian dinner will be served from 6:00 to 6:45pm. RSVP deadline ended May 29 for dinner, however tickets for the show are still available. Email mcgirls@cox.net for more information.
MIDDLE SCHOOL EXCHANGES
Journey School's middle school students have long participated in the annual Pentathlon, Medieval Games, and Track & Field events. And, we're now looking to innovate the educational program even more so next year's students may engage in even more artistic, academic, and athletic exchanges with their counterparts at other schools. For example, on Friday, May 18th, the 7th and 8th Graders hosted friends from the Orange County Waldorf School for a friendly soccer match. As you can see from the photos below, it was a huge hit and lots of fun.

We look forward to similar events in the coming year. After all, why shouldn't our students travel to San Diego, for example, to present a play or musical gift? Or, why shouldn't we host several schools for a mathematics or science challenge? And, since so many of our students love playing soccer or volleyball, why shouldn't they have a chance to do so with peers from across the region? Please be on the lookout for more news about such Middle School Exchanges.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION TEA

Volunteer Appreciation Tea Party Potluck - Friday, 6/8/12 ~ 11am

All Journey School volunteers are invited to gather in the Green Heart Garden after the Reverse Rose Ceremony to celebrate the many accomplishments and efforts of our parent and community volunteers. Parent Cabinet will provide cake and tea - feel free to bring scones, tea sandwiches, muffins, cookies, etc and your mess kit!

We would especially like to thank our many unsung heroes who resist attention; we hope they show up.

ENROLLMENT
Journey School is excited for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year and we are all working hard to prepare. Class rosters are being built, teachers are beginning to prep, and social outreach is being planned. Time is running out for those who still have outstanding paperwork. In order to secure your spot, please return all documents by the end of next week. If your paperwork is pending a medical appointment, please email info@journeyschool.net and let us know when you expect to have your registration file complete. Thank you!
CLOSE THE GAP
Our 2012/2013 Close the Gap drive is in full swing. Thank you to everyone who has generously given. Together, you have committed approximately $205,000 so far with more than 70% of our families participating. We're grateful for your commitment to public Waldorf-inspired education. Your tax-deductible donation benefits the children and fits into the larger Journey School financial picture. And, it's not too late to give for the first time, or to increase your donation amount. Please contact Cindy at (949) 448-7232 or email cindy@journeyschool.net so we can continue to maintain our programs during these lean times. Our goal is now 90% participation and $250,000--every little bit helps and all donations are confidential.
