ECO-LITERACY UPDATES
DIGITAL MEDIA LITERACY UPDATES
It may seem counterintuitive, but at Journey School we focus on digital citizenship and ethical decision-making without all the gadgets.
ATTENDANCE & LEARNING
100% Attendance in the Coming Months
The coming weeks and months are a very important time for the students of Journey School. Please be sure your child is not absent unless there is a serious illness or emergency. Teachers have planned meaningful lessons, and there is now the additional preparation for class plays, festivals, and STAR Testing which commences in May. It is crucial that all children are in attendance all day, every day so they learn well and contribute fully to the class community which counts on them. 100% attendance for your child in April and May is the goal.
JOURNEY'S STAND ON MEDIA
Please Read Carefully and Be Proud
At Journey, we protect childhood by preserving a wholesome environment that allows for close relationships, intimacy, and freedom from unhealthy external pressures.

Central to our work is the school's media policy--which we all agree to uphold on an annual basis. When we don't follow-through together we hurt the educational process in a significant way as media exposure during the week has been proven to weaken the students' capacity to create, imagine, memorize, sleep, and relate to others. Please remember to:
  • Eliminate screen time during the week.
  • Leave all digital devices at home (e-readers, iPads, and other gadgets).
  • If your child has a cell phone we ask that it be left at home. If you insist that your child bring a phone to school, it must always be off and submitted to the teacher during school hours (though this is a distraction and we truly prefer they are left at home). After school, we expect phones to be off and away unless a student gets permission from the adult on duty to use the phone in the pick-up zone.
In sum, the media policy is important and actually a gift to the child and family--just ask the alumni and long-time families how they feel about it.

School Lunches Support 8th Grade
Provide your child with a nutritious and affordable meal while supporting our 8th grade lunch program. Proceeds support the 8th grade class trip. The hot lunches are from Wahoo's and Thaso's Greek Island Grille. Order forms are available in the school office. You may also click here for an easy online process OR print out a PDF form. Contact Carolyn Hatalski at cgh@witsmith.com with questions.
Dynamic JourneySchool.net
Journey School treasures its alumni and we've created an alumni page on the new JourneySchool.net website to highlight our graduated students. We are slowly building it to include alumni stories and exclusive content. If you know any alumni families, please direct them to the survey so we can showcase them and their achievements since leaving Journey. We've even dedicated a new email address to handle incoming stories: alumni@journeyschool.net
Our 8th Graders did outstanding jobs on their project presentations! Our students should be very proud of their accomplishments. A video of the highlights will soon be available on JourneySchool.net
