ALUMNI & 8TH GRADERS
8th Grade Projects
Mr. Martin is proud to announce that this year's eighth graders will present their eighth grade projects in the school multi-purpose room (MPR) between 6:30 and 9:00 each evening beginning Monday April 2nd and concluding Thursday April 5th (see schedule of presentations). This is a special opportunity to get to know our eighth graders as they take the stage individually to introduce us, the school community, their varied subjects of interest, and walk us through the process of completing a related hands-on project. It's also an opportunity for your family to become familiar with a Waldorf tradition they will soon be sharing in. Each evening promises to be unique, and we'd love to have you and your child(ren) on hand for all or any.

Emma, a Journey alum who currently attends Orange County High School for the Arts, says that among her best memories of Journey School were giving and listening to 8th grade projects. According to Emma:

This unique Waldorf custom allows students to transition into high school with a significant research project and essay while integrating the creative aspect that Journey is so well known for. Getting in contact with mentors and speaking about their topic publicly prepares students to be independent in their high school years.

Sophie, another former Journey School student, recalls how important the 8th grade projects were to her:

A main point of my academic focus at Journey was public speaking. I [now feel] completely prepared to get up in front of my classes in high school and give oral presentations because of all the practice I got at Journey. A huge help in this field were the 8th grade projects...[.]

Please plan to come out and enjoy the presentations while showing your support for our eighth graders. All Journey School families--and their guests--are encouraged to attend.
Alumni Visit
Much gratitude goes out to our alumni Ellinoa, Emily, Grace, and Sophie who visited with current and prospective parents on Wednesday for an informal gathering. We are so proud of their accomplishments. Check out our blog for alumni biographies.
School Lunches Support Our 8th Grade Class Field Trips
Did you know that 8th grade students run our lunch program? They provide nutritious and affordable meals and have fun serving the young ones. Proceeds support their culminating class trip--a memorable milestone. The hot lunches are from Wahoo's and Thaso's Greek Island Grille.

Order forms are available in the school office. You may also click here for an easy online process OR print out a PDF form.  Order in the office by Monday morning, March 26th and we'll be sure your kids get fed starting that same day. Contact Carolyn Hatalski at cgh@witsmith.com with questions.
GROWING JOURNEY COMMUNITY
New Families
It is wonderful to welcome such enthusiastic parents to our community. In order to stay fully informed, please attend your orientation and do take advantage of upcoming workshops. Also, we suggest you check the website/blog daily. Once you receive your enrollment packet at the orientation meetings it is important to return it immediately. Welcome aboard!
Existing Families
Thanks for welcoming our new families with such warmth and support in typical Journey style. And, if you have not yet turned in your own enrollment packet, please do so today. It is far past due and the staff's work is complicated as a result.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Jodi Levine, Director of Earthroots Field School and a good friend to Journey School, plans to purchase 40 acres in Silverado Canyon. She envisions it as a wild place where Journey students could come for field trips focused on wilderness awareness, camping, natural building, permaculture & farming in years to come. She invites all Journey families to join her at Earthroots 6th Annual Festival: Sunday April 1st, Levine Family Farmfrom 2:00-5:00pm. Journey families are invited at 1/2 price: $25/adult, free for kids. All proceeds go toward the land purchase.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Book Fair Fundraiser
Journey School Scholastic Book Fair will be held next week, March 26-30. Each class will be escorted to the MPR at a specific time during the week and given the opportunity to select and purchase books onsite. Cash, check and credit card will be accepted. New this year will be the option to purchase online

On Wednesday, the Fair will remain open until 3:00 PM for a school lunch fundraiser
: "Lunch with a Loved One." Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited at 12:30 PM to bring lunch, eat at the lunch tables, and then visit the Scholastic Book Fair. We are really hoping that Grandparents will take this opportunity to read to the young ones.

The Scholastic Book Fair is not only a fundraiser for our school (we earn a cash percentage of our total sales), but also it earns Journey School points that we use to get free books for our classrooms! This year the Book Fair will include an extended purchasing period online. Every dollar spent through the Online Book Fair earns points for Journey. If your child is in need of books for summertime reading or is having a birthday, please encourage family members who can't visit the Book Fair in person to support our efforts during the Online Book Fair
which runs through April 2.
Earth Day Car Show
Fliers went home with students this week for those who want to enter their cars in the show. We need your help to make the rummage sale and e-waste collection a success. Consult the website to learn what to do with your donations of: gently used clothing, books, CDs, toys, and other small items.
