ALUMNI AND 8TH GRADERS
What Happens to Waldorf Graduates?
It's natural for parents to wonder about life after Journey School and how successful Waldorf school graduates are in higher education and beyond. Read the latest post on Journey's new blog about data from a research study which answers this question.
Join us for an Alumni Visit
Two Journey School Alumni will be on campus next Wednesday, March 21st from 9-10:30 a.m. The students are Ellie and Sophie Brodsky-Blake--Ms. Hellene's daughters. Their father will also be attending if you would like to learn from his perspective and experience. Current and prospective parents are encouraged to drop by the staff lounge to talk with them during an informal roundtable. Check our blog on Monday to read a biography of these two former students.
8th Grade Student Designs Rainwater Harvesting Installation
Cyriene Adams' Rainwater Harvesting Installation will occur on March 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Journey School.  Cyriene will be assisted by 5th grade Journey School students, parents, and community volunteers including SOKA University interns and Earthroots staff.  Journey parents and community volunteers are invited to help. Read more about Cyriene's design and inspiration on Journey's new blog.
School Lunches Support Our 8th Grade Class Field Trips
Did you know that 8th grade students run our lunch program? They provide nutritious and affordable meals and have fun serving the younger students, while watching their field trip funds grow from their volunteer work. So why not help them reach their goal? Our 8th graders are challenging our community to 20 new sign-ups this week. Click here for an easy online form OR print out a PDF form from our Online Forms page.
GROWING JOURNEY COMMUNITY
Lottery Results Announced
The Journey School lottery was held on March 14th. Students being offered space in a class at Journey School for the 2012/2013 school year are being notified. All wait list applicants will receive a letter within 7 - 10 days that must be signed and returned by the due date in order to maintain their position on the wait-list.
Kindergarten Orientation on March 21 & 28
Kindergarten lays the foundation for Waldorf education and helps new families learn how to support Waldorf at home. Newly admitted students entering Kindergarten in the fall have been scheduled for appointments for Kindergarten Orientation on either March 21 or March 28 from 1pm to 3pm. (Appointments will also be available for current Kindergarten parents who did not get to attend an orientation.)

New families with children in the grades will be notified soon of their orientation appointment.
Importance of Play in Kindergarten
Journey School is very proud to offer an appropriate Kindergarten model for our children. Read about "Robbing Kindergartners of Play" in a recent Washington Post article.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Got Games?
Have you ever wondered how Games and Physical Education classes are taught at Journey School and why? Come experience a Games Class for yourself in this hands-on lesson and lively discussion with one of the most renown and enthusiastic Games educators in the country!

Thom Schaefer will lead the workshop on Saturday, March 24 from 1pm to 3pm. We scheduled this event at a time when many working Dads could attend! Remember, the class is open to ANY current or prospective parent and all community members. Space is filling up fast. Click here to RSVP.

Discover Eurythmy
One of the least understood and under-appreciated courses in Waldorf Education is Eurythmy--a movement art designed by Rudolph Steiner that is especially intended to strengthen your child's spatial intelligence while bringing balance and harmony to a changing physical body. ANY interested parent or community member is cordially invited to DISCOVER EURYTHMY with Alice Stamm--a faculty favorite-- on Friday, March 23 at 4 p.m.

RSVP now so you don't miss this great opportunity to deepen your grasp of Waldorf education in its fullness!

Book Fair
Journey School Scholastic Book Fair will be held March 26-30. Each class will be escorted to the MPR at a specific time during the week and given the opportunity to select and purchase books onsite. New this year will be the option to purchase online. A portion of the proceeds and book credits return to Journey School. Cash, check and credit card will be accepted -- look for the flyers next week for more information.
Earth Day Car Show
Interested in knowing what community building event the Parent Cabinet has planned next?! How about an "Earth Day" Car Show, Rummage Sale and E-waste Drive? Join us for the event taking place on Saturday, April 21 (the day before official Earth Day) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The event will include: a variety of cars on display, a bake sale (hosted by the 8th grade), sale items ranging from clothing to furniture, craft tables for the kids, and a drop off site for all your large e-waste items.

Sound exciting? Want to help out? Donations may include Spring Cleaning items such as: gently used clothing, books, CDs, toys, and other small items. Please bring small items to the Parent Cottage before April 21 (lamps, small end tables and such). Larger items must be dropped off after school on Friday, April 20--please be prepared to help move them into place. A sign-up list will be posted shortly as we will need volunteers in order to make this event a roaring success!  This is such a big event that we've started a JourneyCarShow.wordpress.com website to keep you up-to-date.
