No School Tomorrow

Friday's school holiday for students allows teachers to write high-quality progress reports and assessments and plan powerful instruction for the coming months.

Writing Empowers Students in School and Life

  • Waldorf Education trains students to become creative and thoughtful writers
  • Journey School is emphasizing the wonder and magnitude of words
  • Recent focus has been on implementing school-wide writing strategies
  • Teachers have concentrated on three particular writing strategies and the students are learning them well:
    • POWER (pre-write, organize, write, edit, revise]
    • Boxes and Bullets (place your main idea in a box and bullet supporting details)
    • Use Transitional Phrases like (First, For example, and Next) to make essays flow with coherence and purposefulness.
    • videos or photos about writing and speeches
  • We had 100% participation in the 4th and 7th grade STAR writing test this Tuesday with no need for make-ups
  • All students demonstrated admirable effort and should be proud

Timeliness

  • BIG THANKS for the BIG TIME improvement on timeliness!
  • On average, tardy rates have been cut down by 75%
  • There is a noticeable difference in the quality of concentration and rhythm at the start of Main Lesson
  • Our target attendance rate for March is 98% attendance
  • The beauty of a Main Lesson Block, or the fundamentals of a math practice period, cannot truly be replicated for the absent student
  • Everyone needs to experience the richness of the educational program
Close-the-Gap
  • The school must close a $400,000 gap in next year's budget in order to keep current services and programs
  • We have started a new Budget Context page on the website to post news and reports on the current California education budget crisis.  New articles are posted weekly. Videos coming soon.
  • We truly need your help
