Good Things Are Happening!
January 10, 2011

Dear Journey School Friends and Family,

Good Morning. We hope you enjoy reading about some of the good things already happening at Journey School in 2012.

Onwards and upwards,

Shaheer Faltas

Scarves Greeted with Thank-you's & Smiles
Journey School families should be proud of helping out their community and school. During the Knit-A-Thon last year, Journey families raised funds for school field trips by creating scarves and hats for South County Outreach, a local charity for needy families in our area. The fruits of our knitting were distributed this cold December to children, who were happy to receive the warmth of our work.

Below is the gracious thank-you note and the photos of the children wearing the scarves, from Andi Doddridge, a volunteer coordinator for SCO-OC. Many thanks again for all your efforts.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the beautiful handmade scarves that the Journey School created for our clients visiting our South County Outreach Annual Toy Store. In these days of so many disposable toys and clothing it truly was a pleasure to receive and distribute such lovely scarves that were created by your group's loving hands. On this chilly, wintry day, we've had well over one hundred families pass through our facility this morning and many were clamoring for the scarves as the toys and clothing were being distributed. They were lovingly and gratefully received!

Again thank you and the Journey School for your time and talents to help South Orange County's mission to end hunger and homelessness. We are very appreciative of your efforts and donation!

Journey Garden Update
Signs were put on the compost bins so everyone can follow the directions and keep the bins healthy. One big request: please don't put items into the compost bins unless designated by the garden team. The compost bins are managed by the 5th graders and the Garden Team.

Over the break, Erik, with the help of Journey parents and students, installed wall mounts to the storage shed and moved it to its permanent resting spot. The final step is painting. The third graders are excited about painting their shed in the coming weeks.

Save the Date - March 3rd is Auction Night!
Get ready to gussy up and have fun at the Annual Auction! This year's theme will be "Founder's Fiesta" to honor the families who created Journey School. The event will take place at El Adobe Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. Note that the auction will be held earlier this year on Saturday, March 3rd to help lessen the year-end crunch of activities. Invite your friends and friends of Journey to join in the festivities.

Click here for important details from Parent Cabinet on class donations and how you can help make this year's auction a success. Your Room Parent will provide additional information on your class theme.

Please contact your Room Parent or Parent Cabinet Rep if you're interested in helping find business donations, decorating, or organizing the auction this year. If you know of a local business who may be interested in making a donation, click here for a copy of this year's donation letter.
Be a POC! Parents on Campus Orientation is January 23rd
Looking to spend time with Journey kids in the great outdoors? Become a Parent on Campus (POC)! POC's help the teachers supervise and guide students during morning and/or afternoon recess. Interested? Attend the POC Orientation Meeting at 2:15 PM on Monday, January 23 in the Parent Cottage. Bonnie River will explain the program, go over the various "stations" on the playground areas and give parents a common language and set of actions they can take when handling issues.

Parents on Campus is a component of the Compassionate Campus program aimed at equipping all adults and students on campus with the same guiding principles to foster a collaborative environment across the community.
