Parent Conferences & Minimum Days
Journey School recognizes the vital role parents play in the educational process. That's why annual Parent Conferences will take place during the week of October 31-November 4 between 1:00-4:00 p.m. Main Class Teachers will be in contact about parent sign-ups. Over the past couple of years, the staff has worked hard to enhance the conference and progress-reporting processes to maximize educational benefit for all children. We are very excited! When you meet with your teacher you will:
- Discuss your child's academic and personal development.
- Receive a Trimester Report with thoughtful, timely, and specific feedback.
- Gain new insight by studying your student's work.
- Co-create personalized goals for the coming months.
In order to make meaningful conferences possible, school will end at 12:30 PM the entire week for all students, K-8.
- We acknowledge that advanced communication about these minimum days has been lacking and may complicated your schedule.
- Please know the he school will work with families which need support with after-care.
- Please click here to request help.
- Once we know what the numbers look like, we'll organize appropriate after-care opportunities for grades students.
- Please know that "Little Acorns" will continue its regular hours and routines.
- Regular after-care classes for grades students on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be canceled unless you hear otherwise directly from your after-care provider in the coming days.
- Once again, we look forward to working together to make Conference Week highly successful and smooth. Please click here to let us know how we can help.

Gallery Walk
When? October 26th at 6:00 PM-- save the date! Why? This is a very important part of the Compassionate Campus Project and a wonderful Parent Education opportunity. What? All classrooms will be transformed into inspiring learning galleries. Older partners will help their partners display work in gallery-like style. Older partners are also writing a letter to you, parents, about how it has been to be with the younger partner and to help him/her become part of the Journey community. Additionally, older partners are going to select certain pages in the younger one's work and tab it for your specific viewing and comments. In turn, parents are going to visit the desk of your student's partner(s) to leave positive comments and express appreciation. In this way, parents too, become a part of the inter-weaving between the students. Other evening activities will include: delicious finger foods (TBD); Gathering in the MPR for topic of the month-- Waldorf and Standards: Balancing the testable with social-ineffables; and, class meetings with your teacher. Who? All Journey School families and friends Other Details In the coming days, room parents will let you know how you can help bring delicious and nutritious foods by class. Additionally, in an ongoing effort to find creative solutions for child-care needs, Kindergarten teachers have generously agreed to host a limited number of children in their classrooms on a trial basis. More details will be published next week. In the meantime, please continue to make personal plans for child-care, to the greatest extent possible, as we cannot accommodate everyone. We are so excited for the evening! Don't miss this one! |

Compassionate Campus Project Update
The 8th grade has selected their first Student Council members. These students were seen to be fair, honest, caring and good listeners. They will inaugurate the student government part of the project and will hand off their work to the winter semester Student Council. The latter students, are now apprenticing to the fall Student Council members and the spring Student Council members will apprentice to those serving on the fall SC. In this way, all eighth grade students will take a turn at serving on the council.
Last week the older partners again connected with their younger ones and checked in on changes that the younger ones may have experienced since we took the "all school temperature". For a vast majority of students on our campus, this year has gotten off to a very strong start! Those who are reporting difficulties are participating in Listening Circles. The Listening Circle is a group of students who sit in a ring around those who are experiencing difficulty and listen to the nature of the struggle. They then serve to give perspective ("I've had that happen to me..." or "... That can't feel good"). In the listening, solutions often emerge; and if they do not, then two weeks later, a second listening circle is called. If, in the end, the seventh grade members feel that the listening is not helping to resolve the issue, it can be referred to Student Council.
Watch next week for the names of the first Student Council!
