Good Things Are Happening!
September 23, 2011
Dear Journey School Friends and Families:

We hope you are enjoying our Journey School newsletter and trust that it serves as a useful resource. Have a wonderful weekend!

Onwards and Upwards,

Shaheer

Close-the-Gap
  1. The voluntary "Close-the-Gap" pledge program is now in full-swing!
  2. Please remember Journey School is tuition free and donation dependent.
  3. Donations are entirely confidential and have zero bearing on your standing at Journey.
  4. Please click here to read about why giving is important.
  5. We ask that you return your confidential form to the office today.
  6.  Our goal is a 90% family participation rate and $250,000.
  7. Approximately $65,000 have been committed on behalf of about 40 students to date.
  8. THANK YOU!

 Principal for the Day

Magnus Pic 1

  • It has become tradition that a student acts as Principal-for-the-Day each school year.
  •  Magnus Mulder, a strong voice in 8th grade, will be your "school administrator" today.
  •  Please be sure to greet "Mr. M" with proper respect in the parking lot and during the day.
  • Throughout the day, Mr. Mulder will: Monitor classroom instruction, give feedback to teachers, keep students in line, direct Mr. Shaheer and Ms. River so they don't slack off, enjoy lunch at his favorite restaurant on Mr. Shaheer, and call a few fun shots that make campus a bit more lively for the students!
  •  Let's here it for Mr. Mulder!
  • We hope you have a blast, Magnus! Good luck shipping everyone into shape!

Month 1 Attendance and Timeliness
  • The Month 1 attendance rate is currently 98.1%
  • Our goal is to remain above 98% throughout the year
  • THANK YOU for ensuring your child attends every day except for serious illness, etc.
  • THANK YOU for arriving more promptly this year as well
  • Timeliness is better--though we can still improve so precious learning time is not wasted or interrupted for others
  • Additionally, fewer students are being pulled out for appointments during the day
  • Again, we THANK YOU for honoring our hard work and your child's education
  • We definitely see improvement and want to encourage everyone to KEEP IT UP!
Gallery Walk
  • Students will transform their classrooms into an educational "gallery" on October 26th.
  • All parents and school friends are invited to eat finger food and walk through the grades starting at 6:00 PM.
  • We encourage you to bring prospective new parents as well.
  • Learning displays wil be on exhibition for all to see!
  • Student main lesson books, writing, art, poetry, math, science experiments, and more more will be set up for viewing.
  • Teachers will also hold short class meetings.
  • An all-school 15 minute educational presentation will also occur.
  • Be on the lookout for more information about this exciting evening!
  •  Limited child-care activities will be available for Journey students only.
  • You will need to RSVP ahead of time.
Back To School Night
  • We so appreciate the outpouring of support
  • Families representing approximately 190 students signed-in
  • We believe even more people were present
  • In case you were not able to make it we've provided the following video links. (Although we are doing our best to ensure the video links work well, you may have difficulty.  Download time will vary. Thanks for your patience.)

  •  You may also click here for a copy of Mr. Shaheer's speech
Enrollment
  • Journey School currently has openings in Kindergarten.
  • Please tell interested friends and family to contact Julie Giffin for information.
  •  Applications for the 2012-2013 lottery will be available in October.
  • "Walk Through The Grades" tours will begin October 4th and are scheduled for most Tuesdays thereafter from 9:00am - 10:30am.
  • Please RSVP to Julie Giffin at 949.448.7232 x2 or info@journeyschool.net.
Millions by May
It is time for Journey School to THINK BIG...really BIG. So, on top of the Close-the-Gap pledge drive--which primarily asks Journey school families to contribute funds for yearly operations--we are now asking our community allies to raise Millions by May.
  • These millions will be used to fund a permanent campus solution and to ensure long-term success.
  • Be on the lookout for more information shortly.
  • For now, please e-mail Mr. Shaheer Faltas at administrator@journeyschool.net to set a personal appointment.
  • Additionally, you may click here to make an instant donation!
After-Care

We are excited about the high-quality aftercare program offered at Journey School. Please visit our website for more information about our providers and how to sign-up for their wonderful enrichment classes.

Teacher Appreciation
Parent Cabinet will be hosting two teacher appreciation lunches this year in December and May. Please email Lisa Fry if you would like to volunteer.

We are also hoping to provide Wednesday lunch for the teachers several times throughout the year. A simple Pot of Soup or Salad is greatly appreciated by our hardworking teachers. Simply pick a Wednesday and contact lisamariefry@yahoo.com with the date.
