Good Things Are Happening!
September 10, 2011

Dear Journey School Friends and Families:

THANK YOU so much for your cooperation and support on Friday! Attendance and timeliness were both excellent in spite of the complications caused by the power-outage. We realize it was not easy for some of you to get here, and we're grateful for your commitment. We are thrilled to be serving your students, and will do our very best to support, challenge, and nourish them. I also want to personally invite you to two important upcoming events:

1. We request the presence of every family for "Back-to-School Night" on Thursday, September 15th. Our 8th grade leaders will escort you to our "Green Heart Garden" for conversation and celebration at 6:00 PM. Each teacher will then host you in their classrooms for a presentation. Families with siblings will have multiple opportunities to participate. The evening will conclude around 7:45 PM.

2. The acclaimed film, "Race to Nowhere," will be shown to the entire school community on Friday, September 16th thanks to Parent Cabinet. We hope all families attend! Click here for more information about this important, and free, community-building activity. It will inspire you and strengthen your educational convictions! Since, Journey School has several last-minute student spots remaining, we ask that you bring an interested friend with school-age children to the film screening.

Finally, Journey School just subscribed to a proven communication system called School Messaging.  In addition to our newsletters, websites and e-blasts, we now have the capacity to send all families instant text messages, e-mails, or phone calls in case we need to communicate pressing news or in emergency situations.  We will continue to limit the amount of e-mail traffic you receive so you're well informed but not burdened.

Onwards and Upwards,

Shaheer

"Race to Nowhere" Screening

Parent Cabinet Special Event - Friday September 16 at 7:00 pm

All Journey Parents and Faculty are encouraged to attend a private, FREE screening of "Race to Nowhere", a stirring documentary highlighting the pressures on today's youth in schools across the country. After the movie, we will discuss the film and what its message means for us at Journey School. Childcare for a small fee will be available for a limited number of spaces.

RSVP by 5pm on Wednesday, September 14 at www.journeyschoolpc.net (new Parent Cabinet website) to reserve a spot at the screening and for childcare. We look forward to a lively and thought-provoking evening!

Teacher Appreciation
Parent Cabinet will be hosting two teacher appreciation lunches this year in December and May. Please email Lisa Fry if you would like to volunteer.

We are also hoping to provide Wednesday lunch for the teachers several times throughout the year. A simple Pot of Soup or Salad is greatly appreciated by our hardworking teachers. Simply pick a Wednesday and contact lisamariefry@yahoo.com with the date.

Class Email Lists
In order to maintain privacy, please be respectful of our classroom email lists and be careful not to pass the email addresses on to others. All email lists should stay within the class. Thank you!
After-Care

We are excited about the high-quality aftercare program to be provided in 2011-12. The program will begin on Monday, September 12th. Please click on the links below for detailed brochures and to sign-up directly with the providers.

Note: Journey School facilitates these opportunities but does not manage them as each provider is entirely responsible for all aspects of the class.

Finally, we do expect additional opportunities to emerge in the coming weeks--including the possibility gardening and academic chess.
