Community Outreach
An Easy Way to Make a Difference
At a recent hunger summit in Rome, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent a clear message regarding rising food prices: "We need to respond to the current climb in prices with immediate action."
The World Food Program USA is offering a simple way to take action today. With this new hunger IQ test, a child will receive a warm meal because of you!
Click here to test your hunger IQ.
By taking this quiz, you'll provide a nutritious meal to a hungry child at school, helping improve their chances for a better future.
**PLEASE NOTE** This section of the newsletter is intended to promote awareness within our community of our wider world. JS does not intend this as a solicitation or official endorsement, but rather as a source of information and as a reminder that even the smallest of actions can make a difference. All JS community members are welcome to submit information to this section by emailing journeyschoolnews@gmail.com

Council Corner

At 12:30 PM today, Friday, May 20, extreme mountain bike rider and Wheels4Life founder, Hans Rey, will be at Journey School to talk about his charity which gives bikes for transportation to people of need in developing countries. He'll be showing his short film: "Wheels4Life: A Story About Giving".
We are also exploring how our children can help give bikes to needy families and communities across the seas through this great foundation. More to come in early June.

2011-2012 Enrollment
Class Size Increase
As many of you know, Journey School is considering a class size increase to accomodate increased demand while raising schoolwide revenue. At the same time, the school is 100% committed to ensuring excellent teacher:student ratios. We are still working diligently on sorting out the details relative to a potential class size increase in grades 1-8. Once a decision is finalized we will notify applicants on the waiting list. Thank you for your patience.
Applications
We are currently accepting applications on a first come first serve basis and encourage interested families to complete the application found on our website at www.journeyschool.net. To download the application directly, please click here.
New Kindy Students 2011/2012
Kindergarten students will be notified by mid-summer announcing which class and teacher they will be joining for the next school year. Please note there is no need for individual orientations prior to the mid-summer announcement.
New & Returning Students
If you have notified the office that you plan to return next school year but have changed plans please e-mail julie@journeyschool.net immediately so the next student in-line on the wait list may have a fair opportunity to enroll in the school. You should know we have received a handful of requests from other schools for student records which usually indicates that a family has decided to enroll their student elsewhere. Please know we must respond to these requests in a timely fashion since a student cannot be enrolled in multiple schools--not only within the district, but the state as well. If you are considering a change of schools for the upcoming year, please notify Julie with your final decision by next Wednesday, May 25, 2011. We will be responding to these requests after this date. Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter. Please know that Journey School respects and supports whatever decision you make for your child's education.
