Global Fund for Women supports the Egyptian Revolution

The current Egyptian revolution has been long in the making. The entire Egyptian society--from workers in textile factories, to farmers and day laborers, to bloggers and students--are not only speaking up and demanding their rights, but enduring being arrested and beaten in the process.

A new dawn is rising in Egypt. Approximately two million people have gathered in Tahrir (Liberation) Square in Cairo to demand the end of the Mubarak regime. They are raising their voices against injustice in their call for freedom, equality, and democracy. The revolution has swept across all Egyptian provinces and cities, even little villages, where on a daily basis women and men have taken to the streets in protest.

The Global Fund for Women stands in solidarity with the brave women and men who are risking their lives to create a new country, one that respects human rights, justice and equality for all.

Peace in Motion

Movie Night

Wednesday, February 9th

7:00pm to 10:00pm

Let Freedom Sing Directed By: Jon Goodman

Oscar and Emmy-winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr. narrates this dramatic look at the people who raised their voices in song against racism and inequality. Change was in the air, and it was the singers and songwriters of such unforgettable melodies that helped give the Civil Rights movement it's anthems and soul. Extensive interviews with Quincy Jones, Chuck D, Isaac Hayes, Gladys Knight, and others combined with never-before-seen historic footage to offer an absorbing account of a time of unprecedented social transformation.

Good Things Are Happening!
February 4, 2011

Dear Journey School Friends and Family:

  • Thank you for your tireless support in service of the children

  • Please submit your CUSD letters to the Journey School office by Monday, 3:00 p.m.

  •  E-mail shoon@journeyschool.net if you need help

  • It strengthens our case if every JS family and staff member participates

  • Please represent your family and classroom well

  • This call to action is time sensitive

  • There is no room for procrastination

  • As a reminder, no one is to send a letter directly to CUSD

  • It's useful if you write on work letterhead

  •  You can also handwrite letters

  • At this time, we need more community partners to advocate

  • So, encourage at least 1 friend or business associate to submit a letter today

  • Remember, the gist is the current CUSD Proposition plan threatens the viability of our program

  • Here's why: We would only have 7 classrooms versus 18

  • We need a better solution!

  • Your letters are about persuading district leaders to explore all possibilities with creativity, imagination, and partnership

  • An array of samples are in the office if that would help your writing process

  • You don't have to write like Hemingway... just speak from the heart

  • Other key themes you may mention in your letter include: Personal testimonials about JS; student success stories; alumni achievements; why Waldorf education matters to CUSD; why combination classes must be avoided; traffic flow and safety concerns; good process; Journey's 5 prior moves and their destabilizing effects; how the current proposal would be the 6th facilities shake-up; And, how this decision would undermine the positive momentum, growth, and stability we've recently achieved

  • Finally, a Special Session Journey School Council meeting has been called for Saturday morning, 8:45-12:00

  • This will occur at the school

  • Everyone is invited

  • Click here to see the Agenda

  • If you do come, here's my request: Be forward thinking; bring a can-do attitude; believe we can band together to make something great occur in the midst of challenge; and, raise the spirit of those around you!

Onwards and Upwards!
